build 1jz or use 2jz bottom on 1j head

Recommended Posts

So while taking apart the engine, I have found that the #5 cylinder bore on my 1j to be scored. My question is it worth stuffing a set of cp pistons oversized to .020 or just finding a decent stock 2j and doing a 1.5jz? My goals are stockish power until my finances allow me to go single and a standalone.

Just get your die grinder out, put a nice stiff bit in it and grind that shit down

grab a NA 2j bottom end. High comp turbo 3L is fun.

Mine was single turbo with only a SAFC on pump gas and I loved it.

I can still see lots of cross hatching. That cylinder looks ok.

thats nothing other than carbon scoring and its more of a polishing than scoring

scuff with red or green scotchbrite in a cross hatch pattern and yer good to go

And if you leave it, you will have an excuse for why an all motor 7M has kicked your butt somewhere down the line.

Not that perfect cylinders will change the outcome, but it will be a good excuse..........

Na, I have a sneaking suspicion that you know how to put together a propperly built engine, and tune it.

Forced induction will always win on similar sized engines (unless the na is an ex-F1 3-liter that turns 20k).

Na, they are a restricted class engine, not all that impressive.

But with, say 3 bar boost, they could be fun.

Ah, but I got to ride in a 510 that had one in it. The car was scary at 100mph and 14k on the tach.

Must have had shit suspension, my old datsun truck isn't scarry at 100.

(except for the time a rod tried to cut the block in half, hot oil on the rear tires at speed is exciting)
