this should hopefully be the last time i modify these....almost cut the tip of my pecker at a 45* angle with the marvel saw lol

the main body is well tacked, the gusset just lightly tacked to hold the angle (inside seam will be getting welded)

shortened the heim mount to move the pivot point upward, finished the front leg to the lower core support, cut em about an inch longer than i need.

everythings nice square and even....it was tough to tip the dumpster on its side but the corners were nice and square to clamp em to for tacking...couldnt stand being there for long.....the smell was horrible from all the aborted jzx projects that spilled out everywhere....

very happy with em. hopefully i can actually do final mockup and marking and clamp the core support to weld it.

had to do a little adjusting but the radius brackets look to be done aside from final welding then front fasteners...

i pressed the lower core support together and clamped it with wire till it gets tacked and welded.

the bottom of the radiator will likely be a little farther forward to tilt the radiator back a little. tons of rad cap clearance, though i may have to cut one ear off the rad cap to gain that last little bit of room (i really lost room up there with the 3" thick tanks)

lower radiator hose is gonna suck, current fan is gonna be inadequate on the hot days im sure of it...

looks good though
IMG_1118_zps5a7dcef3.jpg

gonna be alot less room with the exhaust pipe there....yeesh, fixed one headache to cause several more....go figure.

I vote pass.

His fab skills are better than most shop students I have seen and I'm always down for ingenuity.

Yeah, there is the fact that he is actually doing something other than bolt-ons,

even though I want to puke at his engine choice...........

Maybe a little less square tubing would sway my fealings.

titties. I wanted to do this for a while. still kinda do in a spare shit chassis or something, since I've got a rare-ish bellhousing for it.

I looked at one of your threads while I was considering this. so fuck yeah.

were you considering the lc2 3.8? this 1990 LN3 (EV6 in the commodores down under) motor is the precurser to the Series 1 3800 and is the first decent version of the new gearotor oil pump "on center" FWD blocks

the previous version was the LG3 which sorta sucked.

my goal is to put the SII symetrical port heads onthe talldeck SI to create a winston/indy Stage 2 sym port buick knockoff....good thing the architecture is relativly unchanged for the last 50 years haha!

now thats a motor with some history... ;)

Its welded enough to continue building it, at this point i need to be able to do a full mockup and cut the aluminum IC brackets down to fit and weld em to it.
ill also have a few fastening points for the PS cooler and trans cooler as well as the line brackets.
ive been looking at possibly adding more material to drop the core support down another 1/8th of an inch since the tension rod brackets moved just enough to give me another 1/8th inch (they easily flex up and touch the core support but im thinking its a sign....
IMG_1125_zpsac61468d.jpg

sweeet

IMG_1126_zps32b5b307.jpg

im just kiddin with the two rear bars...those are the armor for the trans lines past the rotating components...been trying to figure out just how ill do the tension rod brackets to K member brace...actually thinking about a solid belly plate....but i sorta need it open to change oil/etc...maybe i should work on the remote filter mount...meh

these need to have a few odd things added to em so ill have points to bolt on my future splash shields. dont want all my purdy junk to git durty

sorta thinking im gonna spill the coin and get em black powdercoated so they last for a while. after i drill and thread em for where they bolt to the lower core support.

for that mater im sorta thinking about getting the core support clear anodized after i scrawl my name on it...

Move this to build section. Loving the work/effort going into this. Keep it up. You using a special filler rid for parts that get anodized? I know there's some that work better than others, just can't remember which kind.

Thanks bud....but lets not elevate excrement onto an pedestal.....

Nahhhh....no need to be fancy...lol

id want it to survive up here in the rust belt so it would be clear.....it's typically with color anodizing that aluminum compatibility should be looked at for consistency of color

I'd be mad if I was stuck with cuntler :P

Oh okay, that's not far off. Let me know this spring/summer if it's going to be out to any meets. I'd like to check it out, however I'm not the meet-carshow stance wisconsin bullshit faggotfest type of guy either.

Ever up at GLD?

Also pass.

im up at GLD a fair bit (byron too) with a beatup rusty yellow nova (10.62 at 124) and a usually broken 2000 regal GS (t70, 600whp 11.3@129 before we broke the trans again, yet again)

i also go with a crapload of local gearheads via thechicagogarage.com

this years set to be awesome with two 1/2mile events and with the planning for a few new RSD classes that started up last season (i figure i should be able to pull off one of the x275 classes

couple years back we had a meet/cruise up to brat stop...always try to hit em up on the drive back from the track (since shit always breaks and we leave early enough lol)

craploads of us 3800 guys, turbo lsx, and almost all of em owner built

i need to bend up two tabs to mount em but the armor tubes look good.
IMG_1129_zps2ec18123.jpg

this thing is pretty sturdy. i went ahead and mocked up one of my bracing idea's for the K member to tension rod bracket crossbar tie-bars

that ones cross threaded something awefull

i figured ya woulda said something about my wierd adjustable turbo support with 5 degree's of freedom via springs, two needle bearings and a roller bearing, or that i have chipped paint from where i pounded the fucker together (didnt figure on the paint thickness fucking me over on the ears)

all thats left to do on it is the beam to the turbo and 3 links of chain, missing is the urethane snubber on the bottom of the bearing can

now that i have acess to a waterjet i can make the arm out of aluminum (it needs to have a Z profile)

IMG_1582.jpg

that seal is cut out of an old tie rod end boot from my dodge

needle bearings are from clutch kits from over the years, roller bearing is from my misc bucket....

center slider for the double acting spring rod is an LS1 valve retainer

that main spring is the hood popper spring from a caprice
