4DRSPRA 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2013 so i started the 5spd swap on my junk box and i was curious if you can drop the auto out and put the manual in without hoisting the engine? might i ask you leave one useful bit of information pertaining to the question before the homoerotic fraternity hazing
Gordo 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2013 Take the flex plate, hack a couple of chunks off the starter gear, and weld them to a piece of square steel tube like this: Makes it much easier to tighten the bolts holding the flywheel on.
Kyle 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2013 Fuck you parts counter faggot. I thought of you when I went to autozone the other day. Asked the faggot for a foot of 5/16" fuel line. He walks back to the hose section in the back (I can still see him), stares blankly for about 90 seconds, then returns and asks what kind of car and what year is it that I'm working on. I walked past him, got the shit myself in like 20 seconds, and asked for a different cashier because I couldn't trust him to ring up my shit correctly when he couldn't find 5/16" written on both the fucking box and the fucking hose. Moral of the story: fuck you faggot. Get your pussy ass hands dirty and figure some shit out. We're not here to both supply you toilet paper and wipe your ass. We're here for neither. Kyle 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2013 < waits for thread after getting trans in, "5spd swap no start, please hold hand"
gameface 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2013 then next thread... "5speed swap how to wire up reverse lights" kyle your story reminds me of some of the parts guys at work on a daily basis, normally end up having to go and point out the part if it isn't a oil filter or drain plug. Might as well be a parts guy and tech then I can get the right parts. also clever tool gordo I normally just hold the crank from the front though
4DRSPRA 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2013 ummm, kyle you clearly have an issue. it could be that A. you either secretly envy me and my sweet ride and all the bitches i pull. or B. you can't read and are an illiterate pompous prick, who thinks that his shit don't stink and is better than anyone who ever asks a question. i think its more B than A but still it could be A. gameface you still suck too for not giving one bit of useful information aside from riding on gordo's dick. gordo thanks for that info i had been reading on how difficult the R series trans is a bitch to put the flywheel, PP, and clutch on. gameface 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2013 wow someone just told me "I SUCK" on the internet, super offended right now Probably can do with engine in but my preference was with engine out for more swinging room, but mine was out anyway. The part that needs to be expanded is closer to the cross member mounting area than the bell area. Stop reading and start doing, pull out the fucking engine and put the trans on it, hammer out the tunnel with a 48oz hammer, since you are probably either a 400lbs parts guy or 100 lbs it will probably take a couple hours. Test fit, if it isn't successful pull it back out and do more hammering. You need mk3 r154, front drive shaft... bell and flywheel for jz obv. mk2 pedals and mc. Other than the hammering and pedal bracket modding you'll have to do its a straight bolt in. Firewall flexes too much without the extra support for the pedal bracket. Transfer mx73 hanger bearing to mk3 front shaft. Auto trans xmember gets flipped around. "info i had been reading on how difficult the R series trans is a bitch to put the flywheel, PP, and clutch on. " its not because all you do is put the flywheel on, pilot bearing on then put the trans on. The clutch plate and friction disc go on the input shaft of the transmission and get bolted to the flywheel after the trans is on, its a pull type clutch fyi. 4DRSPRA 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2013 I am actually only about 215lbs and 6ft tall if you actually wanted to know. see the whole purpose of reading is to further knowledge of something you had none or little of to begin with, being as this is not something i would like to play the trial and error game with. the tunnel massaging was actually very informative as i was told that there would be some hammering. i have all the parts already and have since begun to install the pedals and begun dropping my exhaust and one piece drive shaft out. now about this pedal support i haven't heard shit about that. did you just do a X's support on the back side of the firewall (inside the engine bay) or how did you support it. i didn't think it would need to be modified seeing as how the body looks like it has a template for the clutch positioning. will a mk3 clutch not work, i already know the brake pedal hanger was incorrect as far as bolt pattern but its not to hard to unbolt the pedal and switch the hanger assemblies. seeing how i am a bolt on master i got that shit down mint. gameface 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2013 Oh yea i used a mk3 brake pedal but transferred the actual pedal on to the mx73 bracket, bolts on np, had to cut the ear for the brake switch from the mx73 pedal and transfer to the mk3s because the mk3s was on the wrong side iirc. There is a threaded hole in the cross brace that goes over the pedal bracket, you can see with some shit removed and there might be some deadening material that covers it don't remember. I had to make a support piece, drill a hole for the bolt and weld on to the bracket, the mk2 clutch bracket does have the 3rd upper support iirc but iirc doesn't come anywhere near where you need it to be. Some people might not have mentioned it because they just felt the 2 bolts were fine but the moment I tried it I could feel the firewall flexing.
Kyle 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2013 Wtf just happened here? Pompous, check Prick, check 5spd swapped my own car by actually doing shit and figuring it out, check Gtfo. Seriously. This is not that hard. Seriously. You disassemble, make decisions, then reassemble based on those decisions. The reason we hate you is because you fail to do so. Can you not use deductive reasoning to make stuff happen? I encourage reading up on endeavors you'll be getting into, but you're doing more asking. I don't know why these fucks decided to give you any info. Because if you're capable of reading, you should be able to obtain the info easily.

Oh wait, maybe you haven't reached that point yet. Well, just bring her over to my place, and I will pop her for you, and you can take notes.
