OK, seems to be a lot of confussion about what clutch master cylinder fits what X-chassis.

 

So for the answer to the ultimate question on life, the universe, and everything, lets post what we know for facts.

(AKA actual fucking measurements)

And no, the answer is Not '42'.

 

I have an actual X81 clutcxh pedal here, that I brought in from Japan.

The stud spacing is 72mm center to center.

 

As is my IS300 master, as is my X9 master, as is my Land Cruiser master, and as is the MkIV Supra.

 

The MkIII Supra is not the same, and requires drilling a new hole in the X8 firewall.

 

So, if you can measure, post what X-chassis you have, and what the bolt pattern is on your clutch master cylinder.

 

Please for fucking sakes, no 'I heard', or 'I think' bull shit.

 

Also post which reservoir type you have, strait up (a problem with the X8), angled, or remote.

Talking about bolt patterms of both.

Minor mounting tab differences should easily be handled by any builder.

(if not, they should go play a different game)

 

And reservoir styles, as the strait up type have a fitment issue with the X8 sheetmetal.

With the one's that mount the same as the IS, this can be changed out.

My Auzi spec Land Cruiser master had the strait up reservoit, but it mounted with a pin, the same as the IS/Mk4/GX81, so all I had to do is swap the reservoir.

Agree with that. ok good to know. what are you using for a clutch pedal i'm curious.

Also i'll get measurements of my x7 clutch master and i'll grab a part number of it and see what else it matches at toyota.

I have the GX81 pedal from Japan.

IS300 pedals are almost impossible to find, and I bet that the Mk4 is also.

Not fact, but I believe that in my cross fitment searches a few weeks ago, the later Celicas have the same pattern.

So if you know where any ST165/205 Celicas are hiding, that would be good info to get our hands on.

I believe mine is from a st165. It's a 90 celica gts maaster with an ma60 clutch pedal

t160, 180 and 200 are all the same 72mm and bolt into the x8 firewall stock holes with no modification. the main difference i could tell by looking at them was the reservoir. they should all clear the wiper motor but the later models with the tall kinked reservoirs seem to be the best bet; they put the filler location in the easiest to access place.

I used the celica master with a mkiii ma70 clutch pedal i just re-drilled a hole on the plate that mounts to the fire wall on the actual pedal assembly itself and it fits great.

FWD Celicas have studs in the master cylinder, unlike the older style ones [older trucks and Cressidas at least, and I think RWD Celicas, ect].

So they're not going to just bolt on to pedals with studs in them [like the MX73].

 

I have what I think is an MA60 [or 61?] pedal with an MX73 master in an 86. Same size as the FWD Celicas [i have a couple floating around], but the pedal has studs, so I can't use the Celica one.

 

Some info on the Celica ones.

 

4th gen [86-89] ST/AT16x

5th gen [90-93] ST/AT18x

6th gen [94-99] ST/AT 20x

Also, in the US model year goes off production date while overseas goes by sale date. For the Celicas Sep starts the next year. So one built in Oct of 89 would be a 90 in the US and an 89 in Aus.

 

6th gens are the ones that have the "kink" in the reservoir. But you probably don't want to use an ST205 master, it's probably going to be RHD which IIRC has an opposite [mirror image] bolt pattern. The only ST205s that were LHD went to Europe, the US never got the ST205.

I tried a whole assembly (master and pedal) from an AE95 corolla sedan, bolted right in to my MX83. But the resivoir was the problem. Could work if someone used a remote. It was too close to the wall IIRC.

 

Just grabbed an MA70 contraption, drilled the wall and ran that. Resivoir touches the wiper motor, but can easily be opened. I don't run the big spring on my MA70 clutch pedal.

I'm using a 3/4 bore Wilson with a remote reservoir. Upper hole lines up, the lower hole is on the Cressida side is way below the Wilson unit so I used a fat washer to clamp it down until Brandon can machine a piece that'd work out for anyone.

Yeah you can pull the studs and drill a hole.

But it's even easier to just buy one with holes in it instead...... Cost me $20 + tax.

I cover this once before years ago. Is300 resvoir and 1990 something 4 runner master. You will have the true oem lhd master.

I buy a factory 5 speed Cressida, and I'm "too lazy to do it myself'. Priceless. Also, you can walk into any parts store and get an x3/x6/x7 Clutch master, usually within 24 hrs. As far as an x8 goes seems like ya'll have it pretty much covered. If you need anything checked dimentionally just let me know and I can pull one off the shelf at work and get you any measurements you need.

OK, I need to know the taper, in degrees of both the X8 tie rod ends, and the ball joints.

I'm sure this has probably been covered but what the hell;

 

On my x72 I used a MKIII Supra master and clutch pedal. Re-drilled one hole in the firewall for the master and one on the pedal assembly for the upper mounting point. Easy peasy.

Any of you losers drive your car enough to kill the clutch master?

 

I have the celica and MKII combo, it seems like I have to replace it every two years... it seems like the pedal pushes the pin at an angle and the piston just eats shit eventually.
