Gordo's X8 Ramblings

Recommended Posts

Too  late, already bought the Zeta IIIs.
They were on sale at Evasive.

Then bought these side covers out of Japan to protect them, only in Blue.
Since the IIIs in blue are being discontinued, I'll probably buy some extra center pads while they are still available.

Just waiting for the side mounts now, found some blue anodized ones.

Back in the early days, with leather & a stock AC that would frostbite one's nuts, it wasn't an issue.
But AC is long gone, so except for the winter, the car rarely goes out before midnight.

Seriously thinking about just using the side protection covers as templates, and sewing some up out of a heavy cloth of some sort.
Maybe that Bride blue jersey material that is all over eBay.

Since I've polluted this thread with Datsun stuff before, here is my latest addition to my rat truck:

Well, they are a pain in the ass to dial in, and now I'm finding that they atomize so well that as the weather gets colder, and wetter, having ethanol in the fuel, the damn things will ice the fuel nozzles up, and start dropping cylinders.
I have to pull over and let them thaw out. About a minute is all it take, and it will run fine again.
The colder the weather, the slower I have to run without it icing up.
Took the cold air feed hose off from taking air from ahead of the radiator, to putting it behind it, and it's better.

But what the fuck, it's a Texas truck, not a Southern Canada (Wisconsin) truck.
And it quite a bit faster than it was with a Weber DGV

What weird, it now starts, and idles so much better. In the 15 years I've owned this rat, it has never idled, or started as nice as it does now.

Not sure what I would value higher,  Getting from point A to B without having to pull over and let my "carbs thaw" or a car that starts and idles smooth.

This thread needs less truck more X8 magic.  I'm start posting my dodge shitter truck in my thread haha

Isn't that the whole point of having a fuel warmer plate on carbed vehicles? I've heard cold fuel atomization is actually worse in warm climates or during the summer.

Everyone I know who has put a holly or Weber carb on their truck has said it runs like absolute ass in cold weather or in the morning due to no fuel warmer.

I would figure if the fuel is warmer before being squirted into the motor, it would run better.

I know fuck all about carbed stuff so I'm just spitballing here

Sorry, but not much happening on the 4 wheel front.

I have been making a lot of mods to my Armalite...
Because it's 'merica's' rifle.
Because it's 'Modular'.
Actually because any AR is a total piece of shit....Held together with cotter pins & roll pins, out of plastic & aluminum.
Wish the fuck I never bought one, and will never buy another.

The 'Modular' thing is total bull shit, a million aftermarket parts available, few actually fit, or work, 2 out of 3 are made in that shit hole that gave us covid.

I cut the retarded carry handle off, and made it into flat top
DSC09347.jpg

Converted it to having a side charging handle to get rid of the stupid T-handle pull string, like some toy I had when I was a kid.
DSC09371.jpg

How the thing looked back in May. A lot changed since then, different stock, trigger guard, gas block, muzzle break,
and a lot of internal changes with the buffer design, weight, springs.

By the way, this isn't a little pussy .223 AR15 either, it's a .308.

I know, nobody comes here for this shit either.

By just purchasing it legally, I'm already on the list kept by the zombie government stooges, to be sent to a re-education camp.

The only way to safely own any firearm, is to steal it.

I didn't mean it in an aggressive way. If I had an AR it's the kind of dumb shit I'd buy for it haha

Newest build (Boom-Boom Stick)

AR in .45 acp.
Not a weak-ass blow-back action.
Not even a direct impingement action.
But a Piston Driven action.

Had a 45 DI, piss poor POS upper made by a shit-kicker calling himself 'Macon Armory'.
Yes, it worked, but because the only way he could get it to work was by putting the gas port right past the case mouth, which led to much gas in shooter's face when firing,
and extreme fouling of the action.
All the idiots on AR15.com raved over his .45 uppers because they couldn't build one themselves, hell they cant put a normal AR together without fucking it up.

I had asked the idiot at Macon Armory (Rudy) before purchasing that piece of shit, if he had ever tried doing a piston system, he said yes, but could never get it to work.
Then, after getting fed up with all the other issues with his POS upper I decided to tear the shit upper down, and have a go at a piston build.
Contacted Adams Arms, manufacture of one of the 2 leading piston kits for ARs, and asked him if he had any insight on piston driving a pistol caliber carbine.
He said it wouldn't work due to the low chamber pressure of a .45 acp round. That round only develops around 20,000 psi, where as a 5.56 is up around 60,000.
That made perfect sense, but far from a limiting factor.

Adams Arms piston kit:

Being an engine guy, and well versed on all things fluid power (hydraulic & pneumatic), the path forward was clear...
Want more power out of a NA engine, make it larger.
Want a, let's say, a lift have more power, but have limited pressure available, use a larger cylinder.

So picked up an
Adam's kit, and made a larger piston & cylinder for it.

Their kits use a .312" dia piston,  so first try was 1/2" diameter.
Almost, but not quite. It would try to cycle, but would not pull the spent case all the way out of the chamber.
Tried going to the lightest buffer I could do, and a lighter buffer spring, and the case would clear the chamber, but not the locking lugs on the barrel.
So back to the drawing board...

Original Adams .312" piston & cylinder.

.500 piston & cylinder

Checked how much clearance there was from the piston, to the barrel, and had enough room to go to a .625" set up.
I chose titanium for the cylinder & op rod on both these, to keep from adding weight to the parts that cycle.
Let me say, machining titanium is not easy, especially tapping threads on older equipment without high pressure coolant system, or very controlled feeds & feeds that a CNC machine offers.

End result?
It runs like a top!
It runs clean, since no combustion gasses are released in side the action.

20221024_153942.jpg

The lower I used on this build was made for running M3 Grease Gun mags, so they are easy to come by, easy to load, and function perfectly.
Unlike the POS Macon Armory propitiatory mags, that are only available from Rudy the jack-ass, and nearly impossible to load.
Dip-shit's magazines only held 20 rounds, the grease gun mags hold 30, even though they are only 1/2" longer.

Now, latest on my X8...

Rue, made some custom stainless steel seat  rails, so I don't have to use sliders (which are for sale).
After I drill the holes, each pair of rails will be connected (welded) with a SS U-channel.
