Gordo's X8 Ramblings

Recommended Posts

Too  late, already bought the Zeta IIIs.
They were on sale at Evasive.

Then bought these side covers out of Japan to protect them, only in Blue.
Since the IIIs in blue are being discontinued, I'll probably buy some extra center pads while they are still available.

Just waiting for the side mounts now, found some blue anodized ones.

Leather and Texas humidity, helluvah combo. Glad you went with Bride though.

Back in the early days, with leather & a stock AC that would frostbite one's nuts, it wasn't an issue.
But AC is long gone, so except for the winter, the car rarely goes out before midnight.

Seriously thinking about just using the side protection covers as templates, and sewing some up out of a heavy cloth of some sort.
Maybe that Bride blue jersey material that is all over eBay.

Since I've polluted this thread with Datsun stuff before, here is my latest addition to my rat truck:

Well, they are a pain in the ass to dial in, and now I'm finding that they atomize so well that as the weather gets colder, and wetter, having ethanol in the fuel, the damn things will ice the fuel nozzles up, and start dropping cylinders.
I have to pull over and let them thaw out. About a minute is all it take, and it will run fine again.
The colder the weather, the slower I have to run without it icing up.
Took the cold air feed hose off from taking air from ahead of the radiator, to putting it behind it, and it's better.

But what the fuck, it's a Texas truck, not a Southern Canada (Wisconsin) truck.
And it quite a bit faster than it was with a Weber DGV

What weird, it now starts, and idles so much better. In the 15 years I've owned this rat, it has never idled, or started as nice as it does now.

Not sure what I would value higher,  Getting from point A to B without having to pull over and let my "carbs thaw" or a car that starts and idles smooth.

This thread needs less truck more X8 magic.  I'm start posting my dodge shitter truck in my thread haha

Isn't that the whole point of having a fuel warmer plate on carbed vehicles? I've heard cold fuel atomization is actually worse in warm climates or during the summer.

Everyone I know who has put a holly or Weber carb on their truck has said it runs like absolute ass in cold weather or in the morning due to no fuel warmer.

I would figure if the fuel is warmer before being squirted into the motor, it would run better.

I know fuck all about carbed stuff so I'm just spitballing here
