And for those who are not aware here are the differences between a non vvti rod (same as gte rod) compared to a vvti rod.

20130324_222540_zps3c01f08c.jpg

As you can see the vvti rod is significantly smaller. Hence why I am going to swap the rods.

Also I will most like weigh both rods without the pistons to see what kind of weight difference just for shits and giggles

I will also be using gte pistons but remain with the na vvti head gasket for a little higher compression than a gte motor.

I love half breed engines.

I hate parts sellers who tell you they need exactly what car you have, or they can't look up the parts.

I have 3SG valves on my intake, 4AG valves on my exhaust, and a Nissan pattern shifter going on my W58.

The only rings I could find to fit my Cosworth pistons were from some Honda.

haha yah I really wanted the vvti so I had no choice and the 2jz turbo motor is a waste of bloody money.

So this is why I did what I did.

Vvti gte rod is also the same as non vvti gte. Looks good make it happen.

thx man I appreciate it.

And yes you are correct. But believe it or not the JDM VVTI motors actually have the stronger non vvti rods.

why they did that? I have no clue.

Well i know its been awhile since I last updated, but I have been busy with a new job and what not. But I have acquired a few interesting things and done a little work :)

Well first off is I got a small storage unit to do all my work in. I quit my job at the performance shop so had to get all my stuff out obviously.

20130519_183403_zps5e7af919.jpg

Then I got my block, cleaned it up and painted it.

20130503_000523_zpsb84abefe.jpg

Then I gapped all the rings, put them on pistons, and put the pistons on the gte rods instead weak sauce vvti rods

Got the Megasquirt 3x put together!!!!

20130504_125211_zps533edd81.jpg

And then finally the crown jewel. First legitamate turbo I have ever owned.

It is the Boost Lab upgraded BW S366 Quick Response which has an 11 blade billet comp wheel. It also twin-scroll.

Bearings are on their way so I should have the bottom end together soon!

That's a big turbo, I think someone made like 600hp on a1jz with one. Nice choice on megasquirt.

How much is the rent on the storage lockers? I was thinking about renting one for use as a garage but not sure what a good rate is.

Haha yah it should be fun with minimal lag time. Yah my power goal is a minimum of 600 and anything more is just cake. But Turbo is good up to 800 with the bigger twin scroll turbine and billet wheel.

And this is a nicer place with a gated entry which requires a personal code to get in and a decentish area.

And after taxes and 24 hour access and renters insurance it comes out to about $220 a month

Garage is about 20x20

haha you'll have to redo the rear end to hold that power. our hubs only last to 450 robert discouvered that one.

I started thinking about this and I am undecided on what to do. i am considering a mk3 subframe install but that seems like a headache.....but then again since when is making cars that arent meant to go fast, go fast not a headache.

Should start stocking up on diffs though or do a locker in your current, as for the rest of the rear end it gets a little tougher if you want to fix the shit geometry and weak ass shit.

Put a solid pinion spacer in before you even bother trying to drive it. Trust me.

^ i will 2nd 3rd and 4th that. unless you plan to spend much downtime swapping diffs

Weld your rear or get a spool or whatever...but on the real. The weak link in this setup is the R154. Switch to a A340 or TH350/400 and cut your driveline breakage worries out.

At this point it looks like I may be going with a Ford 8.8 IRS. Just seems like a good idea.

And for the R154 Im gonna call a few trans specialty places and see what it would cost me to rebuild/refresh install Marlin Crwaler upgrades and cryo treat everything. If the price is to high or advantages wont be enough then I will just go with a T-56 setup.
