zokustyle 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 So I've searched the internet over and only found people telling other people that these kits exist, then supra guys talking about gas mileage and launches. I know all about the #3 full lock kit, but lately I've been more interested in the #2 kit, the one that's the more aggressive kit. Does anyone actually have the #2 kit installed and used it? I want an LSD that acts more like a 2-way. With a breakaway torque of up to 250 ft/lbs, will this kit make the stock LSD act like a 2-way, or does it stay more of a really harsh 1-way? Has anyone else been wondering this, or should I just go to Spence with this curiosity?
turboblack2door 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 I rebuilt my 4.30 diff with the stage 2 kit because I didn't want anything crazy on the street but more than stock and when I called weir he said this is definently what I needed for what I was asking. Gordo 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 If that is the one with the booster spring, I had done that before they came out with the kit. Mine took the stock wimpy 45 ft/lb break-away torque to 95 ft/lbs. But won't match the performance or driveability of any x-way anything, because the stock LSD is not a cam type. Anything with 'way' in the discription uses cam ramps to apply more lock-up when torque is being put through the ring gear. This makes for smoother driving under low throttle driving, and more lock-up when you are being agressive. 1-ways only lock under accelleration. 2-ways lock equally under both accelleration, and decelleration. All the others (1.5-way, 1.2-way, etc) have just a percentage of lock under decelleration. Quote from the movie 'Ghost Dog, The Way of the Samari': "It is bad when one thing becomes two. One should not look for anything else in the Way of the Samurai. It is the same for anything that is called a Way. If one understands things in this manner, he should be able to hear about all ways and be more and more in accord with his own. "
Demesio 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 i bought their solid pinion spacer and spring... not that i drift or anything, but i havent had a one tire burnout yet
Austin 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 i put one in my IS. it was great. much more predictable lock, would sometimes drag the inside wheel on super sharp turns like pulling out of a parking lot if i was going a smidge faster than you probably should. it was quiet and smooth mostly. my stock mkIII diff had started to pick and choose when it would and would not lock after my 1j swap, so i did the upgrade and i didn't have that issue anymore. for 75$ you can't fucking beat it. turboblack2door 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 the stage 2 kit has a spacer and 2 bellville washers and you take the factory spring out which gives you the 200ft/lbs of break away
Gordo 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 Spacers can be made, and bellville springs are readily available. I may have to try that.
zokustyle 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2013 for 75$ you can't fucking beat it. That's what I'm thinking. I guess I'll try it out and let you guys know.
Space Case 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2013 Lots of corolla guys have done it to the 7.5" diff when they upgrade to a mk1 supra solid rear axle; they all seem to like it. Like previously said, for 75 bucks you cant go wrong. You can't even really rebuild it to STOCK performance for that price. It'll never be a super hero like an aggressive 2 way, but itll be a hell of a lot better than stock. I just bought a welded diff for my X8, going to put that in and see how I like it. If I find it too annoying, I'll rebuild my current LSD with the stage 2 kit, new bearings, and maybe a 4.1 rnp.
nihonno 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2013 just add a shim washer or another clutch plate on both sides. oldschool cicletrack guys do this. costs about $1.
Tomo 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2013 I put one in and it definitely helps bump up the breakaway torque but still not happy with it and unpredictably drops a wheel when it wants - useless for controlling a slide I tried shims on the clutch packs & shimmed spring and stuff before I used the weir kit
