X8 rear lateral/trailing arm bushing

Recommended Posts

OK, so you buy fancy lateral arms for your X8 that have a hiem joint at the front.

So what about the rear bushing that goes in the upright ?

Well you can put another piece of 'better' ruber in there (poly).

But that still is not up to the same rigidity as the heim joint on the front.

Kind of a compramise, right ?

No more.......

Just stumbled onto this one.

The same Supra lower spherical bushing that I am using to replace the non-availabe Cressida bushing,

is a direct fit on the other hole !

No adaptor sleeve, just press the sucker in !

Exact same diameter & width.

$35 at the local Toyota dealer.

Press the old one out.

Note: You will need to remove the brale dust shield, or bend it out of the way.

Other way around.

The rear spherical bushing for the Supra, is a direct fit in the front hole of the X8 upright, and also fits the rear hole of the X8 if used with my adaptor sleeves.

The Supra bushing (p/n 42210-14010) removes all spongyness of the front rubber bushing that both the Supra & Cressida comes with, is factory sealed, and will last at least another 100,000 miles.

But it only costs about $35 ea. on line.

A pair of my sleeves cost $35 shipped in the 48 states.

I think I have pics in my build thread.

Cool. Thanks Gordo. So the eyelet further to the front of the car is a direct fit for the supra bushing while the eyelet furthest to the rear is wider in diameter and requires a pressed in sleeve for the bushing to fit correctly, is that right?

Yup.

Have no idea why Toyota stuck the odd-ball size on the cressida.........and then never offered a replacement.

The one from the supra fits several cars, and is easily sourced.

I always put a thin film of Loc-Tite on this stuff when I press the pieces together.

Anyone know the size of X100 items as you can buy Kazama upgrade solid bearings for them

Well, I may have found a source for more of the material, but...........

Minimum purchase is $100, and with out buying a stick, there is no fucking way to tell of the OD/ID is correct, since tollerance on tube is quite wide. I could easily end up with $100 of tube that fit too loose.

Just a heads up to any Canadians about the Supra bushings: Toyota tried to charge me over $100 CDN (About $7 US right now...) for a new bushing. They're not cheap. Although it may just be that my local dealer is a fuck. But yeah, make sure you get a quote before you order.

Don't buy them from a local dealer, just google that number, and you will find people not wanting to butt fuck you.
