Stability at speed

Is anyone else here surprised at how fucking stable these piles of shit are at high speed with just coils? I was told we cracked 170 here recently. Pretty sure thats incorrect and prob more like 160ish, but still. Even then I didnt feel like the car wasn't suited for it.

I was on the way to my second job the other day, met a new GT3RS on the way. he was baiting me as soon as he saw me, I dunno why. I don't need to race him to know who would win... but a couple times when I was following him just for funsies I was surprised at my speedo reading. When you get out into the wide open stretches in TX it can get hard to gauge your speed from looking out the windshield...

You should try one with rear sub-frame bushings in it, larger sway bars, and just a little aero on it.

have to imagine a jdm front bumper is leaps and bounds better than the usdm piece. and easier to add a lip/splitter to.

stock cressidas are far from stable. i had a 92 maxima SE that would feel great at 140mph+ stock. the stock cressida i found scary-ish even at 100mph with good tires and everything working fine. the maxima was probably the last nissan i ever drove that had good suspension.. actually scratch that, it was the last good nissan i've ever seen.

 

i mean, i've never been in a stock car so stable until i got my GS430, even the IS wasn't that great (well it had a hard enough time just going fast anyway haha)

Strange Bill, my first Cressida ('91), with nothing but fresh shocks, good Dunlops, and cut springs was decent even at 130+.

Made many 200 mile trips across Texas at 120-135, with nothing strange rolling down the highway.

It did tend to lift the rear end a little at that speed, but nothing that I couldn't control with 2 fingers on the steering wheel.

 

Now slowing the bitch down with stock brakes when the radar detector went off was a whole different matter.

I used to go through a lot of front rotors back then........

the most i've had my '90 up to was 110 mph on a smooth stretch on the Jersey turnpike. back then it had 60k miles, was all stock on 20 year old suspension and worn motor mounts.. felt pretty stable i was actually surprised i was going that fast.. i let off though, didnt wanna blow the HG 100 miles from home

clip the wire.

 

It should be pin 12 in the 28 pin connector. It is usually pink iirc. Shouldn't cause any problems other than a cel that goes off when you start the car the next time

i did 120 on my blown shocks, cut springs, and 6 yr old dry rot tires.. not the safest thing ever, but smooth non the less :)

120mph on the freeway and shit was stable. And that was just with cut front springs and S14 rear springs and my current wheel/tire setup at the time..

 

120mph in the '80 Celica i had(full suspension/ 2rzfe swap, '80 supra rear end) was scary, noisy and shakey.

The fastest I went in my X chassis was 140. Kph. Scary as fuck with a billion toe out. My old Soarer on the other hand, that thing felt good and calm until about 240, then got a bit rowdy till it ran out of gear. Granted my G feels right at home at 160-170, it just doesnt have the power to cruise much faster. But I fucking love big cars.

other than that freakish howl, yea these pigs are stable. i remember i was able to take a few pics with the needle buried somewhere south of the 140mph mark with one hand on the wheel (guestimating at the 160 mark). just point it and floor it. wish i still had the pic... i think that pic is forever lost on myspace though, for i can't figure out the login or which email i used for the life of it.

i've topped out 4th and kept on 5th for a lil so im guessing somewhere around 150. on blown front jics and it wasnt too bad, i didnt keep it at that speed for very long as the highways here are fucking sketchy. i wish we had the highways you texas ppl have.

Hmm did not know this, I'll cut it and run a switch to it so I can get it inspected without it throwing the light.

haha, I'm so used to most cars having a 180km/h speed cut, yesterday I took the GS up to 180(111mph or whatever), pushed through that invisible barrier then realized the car obviously has a much higher cut, floored it and jammed up to 240(150mph) and had to pull out I learned later the cut is at about roughly 165mph (265km/h) haha, didn't quite have the road left to do it or the nerve. the 3UZ is capable of hauling some speed even in this pointy barge.

 

and yes, tipical story, clear clean smooth country mile, car is in tip top shape, air pressures perfect, tires minty, fully inspected, just one loose swaybar end that isn't really loose yet.

Man... my X7 felt like it was literally going to fall into 100 pieces doing 95mph entries at MIR. Like, the whole car was shaking and shit and I thought I was going to be transported 100 years into the past.

All my X8s have felt pretty solid at 130+mph but all my X7s wandered a bit at 120+ but felt decent.

 

Safely took this pic with no vibrations at all.

Funny that I've had my 88 MA70 up to 110 mph and it was scary as shit. Seemed like the front end was lifting. Had the MX83 up to 120-130 mph a it felt dead solid.

 

A recent visit to the county courthouse where I saw a judge sentence a late 40 year old guy to 30 days jail time and 6 month suspension for 105 mph has convinced me to stop that shit. Central Virginia doesnt fuck around.
