X7 guys tire sizes in a 15"

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide what tires to get on my new rim setup 15x8 ET 4 and 15x 7.5 ET 0, as we all know the stock size is 205/60r15 and there is a very limiting tire selection for this size. I have seen alot of guys running 205/50r15, but was skeptical of running such a different sized tire. The OD is almost 2.5" less and will obviously give less ground clearance and fuck the speedo ( I have a low hanging exhaust setup ). Who here is running a 205/50r15 or any other sizes on a 15" rim, because I really need some opinions before i pull the trigger. I can only afford to buy tires once because im a broke shit

get used tires if your gonna stay with the stock size. you have to make your own mind up on it tho. I had 195's and it was bullshit on the highways, and the wheelgap looked dumb. If I ever find wheels I want, Im probably going to go with 205/50.

ive always run 195/50 or 185/50 on 15x8s but thats just me.

currently run 195/50 on my 16x8 and 205/50 on the x9's

but it really comes down to how you like it

The main problem right now is my ground clearance. I am maxing out the height of the bc struts in the rear and am still low. i think with a 50 sidewall I will be laying frame which isn't gonna fly on long island/ city roads.

For tracking the car, 205/50/15 azenis on a 15x8 front, and 205/50/15 ZE-512s on a 15x8 rear is MONEY. If you're laying frame with a 50 series, your car is too low and will handle like shit anyways, so thats irrelevant. Keep in mind, losing 2 inches of sidewall is only moving the frame 1 inch to the ground, outside of tire pressure, stretch, and other variables.

Very very helpful. Thanks alot man just what i was looking for. Im leaning toward a 205/55/15 right now. which would only lower my ground clearance by .4" compared to the 50 lowering my car .8" hypothetically in a perfect world.

If the car is too low either way I guess I could also space out the strut mounting point a bit with washers ( id rather not rig shit, but what the hell) or some shit to get the car up higher.

Tire wise I was looking at the Yokohama s drives they seem to be rated the best for the price for street driving.

I'd highly recommend a 50 series and a 2 ply sidewall. These rear trailing arm cars already feel squirrelly on turn in... adding a large (and soft) sidewall just makes them even goofier.

This isn't completely relevant, but I feel the tire sizes we use are similar and you might benefit from my review.

on my 15x 10 I've had a couple different sets of tires.
One set was toyo proxes r1r pretty low tread wear rating, pretty soft tire, gripped incredible I ran 195 50 15 up front and a 225 45 15 out back.

They had a unique stretched look, I think because of the soft sidewall, Seemed to have no end to performance in the canyons, shitty 5m could not over power them ever.

Old pictures: of toyo front 195 50 15 on volk te37v 15x10 -25

The rear:

Fronts wore out, replaced with falken azenis 615k they just changed the formula from the old 615k and I have to say perform very well. Not as low tread wear rating, much stiffer sidewall, gave a nice desired look on the wheel with stretch. I'd say the front of the car is much more responsive, how ever I did loose some grip, they still really grab the road and fight for traction, but maybe with my confidence in driving going up I do find them to be a little slippery at times which can get kind of scary when you start pushing it. These were cheaper even than the 195 of the other tire. Both awesome tires, but since I daily I'd probably go with the azenis since cheaper and last longer, plus I really value responsiveness.

now with azenis 205 50 15 on same rim

sorry there aren't more haven't taken pics while car not running

I'm using some 205/50/r15's for my 15x8's and I have not had any issues. I have not cared to check how much my speedo is off though. My wagon had some monster truck 75 sidewall tires on it when I bought it so that was a pretty huge difference.

When I had 15s I was running 205/55/15s and 225/50/15s. Both are within 3.5% from stock. 205/50/15 is more than 7% off.

I was also kind of surprised that once I put a proper rolling diameter wheel/tire combo on in 17s, and lowered the car more it still bottomed out less.

Moral of the story... 15s are wack. There aren't many tire sizes that have a lot of width, running undersized tires is for asians, mexicans and VW douches, to get rid of the wheel gap you have to risk taking your oil pan off by going really low, etc etc.

Go bigger. You'll thank yourself.
