Xcessive Front Tension Rod Bushings

We've designed these front tension rod bushing inserts to dramatically reduce the compliance in the stock front bushings. The stock rubber front bushings have designed in gaps to make for a softer ride. These factory gaps allow the front control arms to flex front to rear until the stock snubber washers compress enough to stop the movement. Our insert bushings eliminate all the factory gaps with a firm 80A hardness urethane. The new urethane inserts are contoured to match the factory bushings to eliminate all the gaps and maximize the contact area. Since they fit in the stock location, they can be used with any front tension rods that fit up to the stock bushing. These are a great upgrade for those who want as much control as possible without the expense of solid pillow balls. The design also helps keep the stock rubber bushing from failing due to the abuse of racing and competition.

Not so sure I like this one Mitch.......

There is a reason that people make replacements with spherical bushings,

and that is because the rod just doesn't rotate at that point, it has to make some angle moves too.

 

Have you tried moving the lower control arm without the strut attached ?

Does it bind at different points ?

I see your point, but think of the energy suspension tension rod bushings for the ae86, same concept.

These bushings are not hard as steel, they do flex in order to have proper suspension movement. What you gain from these is a lack of forward and back movement of the stock bushing. In order to keep you caster at a steady point rather then moving depending on braking or acceleration.

 

We will have full captured heims in the near future but this is an easy upgrade for anyone. Whether they have stock ride height or slammed on the ground. Our factory pieces are 19 years old if not more, they are fatigued and starting to loose what little stiffness they originally had. This removes that slop and give precise adjustability in the front. And yes we have tested them and we get full articulation out of the suspension without issue.

That's fine Mitch,

Your one of the few people in the US that make well thought out parts, but I just thought I would mention it.

 

By the way, I have seen people in Japan take rack inner tie rods from a 300AX, and use them for front tension rod pivots.

They are short enough that you can use the threads on them for one part of the adjustment assembly.

the pillowball bushings are on hold for now. I will let you know if that changes.

Ya I done goofed. I went to the yard and found our that I was still using x7 tension rod brackets wit x7 bushings haha facepalm moment
