Remove X8 mounts weld in S14 mounts job done..... common sense must be hard to find.

Well I guess I worded that poorly. I was more interested in positioning vs x8/x7 rack and why use it over the x7 rack.

both from what i have read seem to be around the 3 turns lock to lock depending on knuckle setup and so on. I think it is more effort then it is worth but in saying that i could have done it as i just got my stock mounts moved closer to cross memeeber

If you have access to an s14 rack/crossmember then I think it's definitely worth the effort. Just being able to move the rack forward when you do the install and having a stronger rack makes it well worth it to me.

now all this has me second guessing myself, I'm wondering if it'd be easier for me to put a GM rack in for my swap since GM uses m14x1.5 outers too.

first step is going to be measuring the travel of my x7 rack today, I suppose.

the travel on my x7 rack is about 6", and it's 3.5 turns lock-to-lock.

 

the most promising GM rack that I've found only has 5.75" of stroke @ 3.5 turns lock-to-lock, on the trailblazer SS rack.

 

GM/Ford steering racks are hella easy to make crossmembers for, though

I still have a stock x8 rack in my x8 and the rack bottoms out way before it gets to full travel, which is another reason why I might go to a shorter travel GM rack

Stock X8 and X7 rack are very close to the same lock to lock but remember with knuckles it will shorten the distance..

 

I think if i was to do all this again. (i moved Stock mounts 30mm closer) and run X7 rack i would just go out and buy a real race rack

Well my issue cant move the rack forward well not a lot with out moving rack around a bit or up higher or something. Might go aftermarket rack

is this look like its going to be a lot of angle, its hitting the frame, the other side is gonna have to be notched

Anyway arms re done since the purple flaked off got these all powder coated.

 

 

And front cross member reset 20mm forward 10mm up and rack moved a 5 degree angle to help new position.

 

Going to run 5MM spacers with AE92 Rack ends.

k will do. a couple of my s13 owner friends use them. but they bolt and weld them on so it doesnt pull the threads out.
