bryannxx 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 ive been trying to search everywere but i just cant find the answers im looking for .i just bought a 1989 cressida . and everything seems to be working and drives great but there one problem the black box on the left side of the engine bay , what is this for ,cuz its cracked really bad at the bottom . will it effect me from passing smog ? thank you . The help I think you need is over at TC.net What is a charcoal filter? if you don't know that much about cars why did you buy a cressida? TougeCrameryRollinNice 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 evap canisters suck up hydrocarbons and store them till the can is purged back to the intake manifold. it gives you better gas milage it helps keep hyrdocarbons from floating around in our atmosphere. yes it will effect you passing smog if it has a crack because you won't pass an evap test.
