demogorgon15's trusty ol steed

Recommended Posts

~18 months ago I purchased a RX80 Cressida (this one was actually used as a taxi by the previous owner) to replace my AE101 levin; and provide me with a nice reliable cruiser.

The prev owner did a conversion to a 2c-t:

and out it went:

My original plan was to go with a 3sge, but after consulting with a few jzx members I decided to go with a n/a 2j:

Next step is to sort out the brakes / suspension then to sort out a stereo etc...

preemptive strike: yes gordo I will be getting rid of the fugly hoodscoop as soon as I find a bonnet to match the cresta nose cut I got.

Yeah, get rid of the scoop, leave the hole, mount a big fake supercharger on the cam covers of the JZ....

Just kidding of course.
Nice progress.
What are you going to do with the left over lawn mower engine ?

WRT the engine, My mechanic sold it for scrap I believe.

Picked up a pair of z32 rotors and calipers to upgrade the brakes:

Now to try and figure out WTH to do with my rear end since its solid axle... Should I try a SR5 hilux rear end?

What offsets do you guys normally use to clear the calipers?

Really ?
You put a StopTech (made in china) decal on Japanese made calipers ??

I think that will make the Z32 calipers work less efficiently.

Nice file work, and is that real math I see scribbled on the brake adaptor paper work ?
Puts you a step above most Cressida owners.....

Wheel fitment over those calipers has never been an issue with any aftermarket wheel I've ever seen.
Typical offset for wheels sold in Japan for the X8 is 7" 40 offset for the front, and 8" 45 offset for the rear.

This is a bolt-on, no bodywork fitment.

Do extended wheel studs (I think it was Toyota Matrix rear studs that work) and a slip on 10mm spacer with an ID small enough to hold in the hub-centric ring.

They don't clear any of my shitspec wheels.  Have an 18mm bolt on always installed in the front.  It's not much of an offset thing as it is a hubspacing (or what ever the word is) thing.  I have 2 pairs of the same "offset" equips but they have different "disk-types" one clears other doesn't.

its mostly face design mixed with offset...too many variables for some oddball stuff. the 91 7 spokes from a s13 fit, but have to be the hollowed out versions (2 kinds) they allow clearance all around with the de ribbed ones.  any flat faced or low disk wheels wont work, spokes need to be bending out if that makes sense. like a concave cr kai or advan model 5 or something like that.
