mx83 2jz swap wiring

Recommended Posts

Was planning on sending my engine and chassis harness out to panic but I got an email saying they aren't taking any more custom work for the year. I haven't been able to find any PnP diy wiring walkthroughs (Its my first wiring rodeo and don't know shit about what I'm doing so I need a step by step guide). I've heard its pretty simple but I have yet to come across any guides that goes through it. If I'm going to tackle this myself I definitely need a bit of hand holding and don't mind admitting that... pretty sure others would appreciate the info as well. So for starters what underdash and underhood harnessed to I need to splice into the 2jz engine harness?

There's literally a dozen videos on YouTube that hold your hand and suck your dick while showing you how to wire a VVTI 2JZGTE. JS I'd start there.

I've got the complete 2jzge engine and harness from a gs300. I'll be putting the 2jz in my 91 cressida once I get the ac compressor and ps line I need. Just gotta get everything hooked up so it runs and all the dash and accessories work. I'm in the High Desert. Let me know. I could probably figure it out with some help but like I said it'll be my first time doing any sort of wiring. Ive got both the cressida and gs300 electrical wiring diagram books.

My biggest pet peeve is when N/A owners say they have a 2jz and specifically leave out GE, knowing damn well there's a big fucking difference.

I'm only annoyed when it's an idiot who doesn't know anything about them and is trying to hide it's not a GTE. A GE is just as good of a base motor to start with and anyone who knows that won't care.

Tip #1: Read this: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showthread.php?24170-Electrical-Theory-The-Importance-of-Smoke-by-Joe-Lucas

Tip #2: Don't let the magic smoke out of the wiring.

Tip #3: If you do let the magic smoke out, then you will need to buy the Japanese version of this:

Smokekit2.jpg

Note: British smoke will not work in a Japanese vehicle, so don't waste your money on Lucas smoke,

the are not compatible.

Demesio knows his shit. I 2nd the Wilbo site.

Do you know how to check for continuity? This will save your life.

Edit: Panic isn't bad.... but mine I had to redo a lot of parts of the wiring. I wish I did it myself.

Do you know how to check for continuity?

Make up a couple of long jumper leads, with alligator clips.

To test a wire, hook one end of the test lead onto the positive battery post, then to one end of the wire your checking.

Then the other lead to the other end of the wire to be tested, and it's other clip to ground.

So I got the engine and transmission bolted in (the easy part). Ended up making some engine mount brackets that closely resemble the XM ones so I could put the shifter where I want. That worked out nicely other than trying to use the factory trans mount and crossmember on the AR5. Only 2 of the 4 bolts are in on the mount and 2 of the 4 are in on the cross member, so I'm going to do some measuring and fab up a new crossmember and trans mount utilizing an Energy poly gm trans mount.

I took the upper intake manifold and the engine wiring harness off so I could do all the wiring on a bench and test all the important wires. Going to try to make it plug and play using part of the 7m ecu header, not sure if I'll be able to keep the 2jz ecu in the stock location above the glove box or will have to sacrifice the glovebox for the space. Would love to see if any of you have been able to keep the glovebox with the 2jz ecu and how you accomplished that.

Anyone know what part number for the ecu pin terminals used in the non vvti 2jzge harness on TE or Mouser?
