LUMBERZACK 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 Oh man that is a jaw dropper. Living in Arizona, I barely come across a wild Cressida, I'm really hoping I get to see this car at some point. Just wow.
Gordo 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 So Brian, When are you going to: Change wheels to something that won't fit ? Hammer the fenders out so the wheels will ? Add a Chinese single manifold, with big, no-name turbo ? Cut a hole in the hood for the dump pipe ? Install a crush bend exhaust with FlowBasterd muffler ? And my favorite, install Megan ching-chong coilovers ?
brian 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 Definitely not doing the early 20s drifter package, but there are some exceptions. I do need suspension at some point though, the installed sometime in the 90s adjustable KYBs are very soft. Not sure if I can rebuild those? If not then I need something and these days new Japanese coilovers are kinda non-existent. As of now, my plan is to get ching-chong BC coilovers just so it stops rolling and squatting so bad. Power wise, I am saving my pennies for a used T51R (a turbo I've wanted since I was in diapers), or a turbo of similar specs (GTIII-5R, more realistic). For now I am enjoying the near stock 1JZ though. I miss these old TTs, they have more of a old-school boost feel to them compared to the VVTi which are more modern in they have instant response and torque at low rpms. The car has a RS-R downpipe and a Tanabe Hyper Medallion R exhaust, those KYBs, some drop springs (don't see the brand). It had a original 90s HKS Power Flow intake system with the hard pipe and the dome filter but the filter mesh rusted out and the plastic frame broke from hitting the ABS box for so many years, so I had to replace it with a K&N. Other than that, the car is 100% stock, even has the plastic intercooler piping still. Other little things about it, it has some weird stereo setup in the doors and someone removed the rear speakers and factory Technics sub . For now I installed a 91 Cressida CD player so there are some tunes, also this car had the optional CD player so the satellite buttons work like stock with it. Anyway, just going to fix the little things wrong with it and enjoy it for a while before doing anything. I do want to fix the TRC/ABS though, since this car was auto from the factory and swapped sometime ago in Japan to R154 they didn't hookup the rear tailshaft speed sensor. So the TRC and ABS lights are on. Being a old man with kids I actually want those to function again, so going to wire that tailshaft speed sensor on the R154 to the harness and see if makes them work again. The factory TRC-OFF button is missing, that was on the bezel for the auto-shifter. Gordo, maybe you can source one for me? Also, Gordo, you'll get a kick out of this; the car had a welded diff when it was imported so I swapped it over to a stock Cressida open 3.9 so I could drive it because I fucking hate welded diffs. Anyway, when I opened it up I found out they welded the Torsen! I've never seen that before, especially considering even in Japan these diffs are worth a few bucks still. Gordo 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 Does the R154have a port in the tail shaft housing for the ABS sensor stuff? I have the toothed wheel, and may have a spare sensor around here.
brian 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 the sensor is on the trans but not wired up. going to try to find a jzx81 wiring diagram for the abs/trc/trans part of the harness and wire it back in. still need a trc button though, i have a couple from my IS300s so one of those might work. LUMBERZACK, i might cruise by there tonight. if it's just a bunch of stanced subarus and 350zs (all i see in gilbert) then i'll head home. otherwise it would be cool to see your car too. LUMBERZACK 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2018 Not to be the bearer of bad news, but from what I remember, the line-up consisted of mostly beat to shit tin can 240's on oversized chrome 3-piece wheels. Sprinkled in between were some decent quality drift builds. To be fair though, I think if your JZX had a chance of attracting any attention at a car meet, it would be at one of these drifter meets. The Saturday Scottsdale Pavilions show has a fairly dependable turn out on the other hand.

Nigel_Vertigo 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2018 Damn, that's gorgeous. Would look great with a grey leather interior and an old TOM'S wheel. I've wanted a T51R for forever, too. The couple I've seen on YAJ were old as hell and still $1500 though.
Gordo 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2018 1500 is a cheap one. But it's an old turbo. I'm thinking one of the ball bearing specials would be the only one worth bring in, as the new age of the Borg Warner turbos probably will out perform a T51R.
brian 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2018 so the IS300 trac off button fit the bezel around the steering column. it's not the correct orientation and will glow orange, but meh, it's free.
