Dirty_Rotor 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2017 Yo sup guys. So does this look legit? It's on Craigslist locally but I can't seem to find any information on a t4 greddy manifold for 1jz. plus it isn't equal length, although it does have the reinforced pieces I've seen on other greddy Manis
Gordo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 It sure does. The Chinese don't use a cast stainless steel WG flange with 'GReddy' cast into it. Most of the turbo up-grades by GReddy use a T78, or a T88 turbo. Meant for people with balls.... And equal length means nearly nothing on a turbo set-up. WhoreMouth_Jr 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 It actually does a bit if it's a true twin scroll turbo on a divided manifold..
Dirty_Rotor 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 Thanks gordo! I'm gonna try and pick it up tonight. Ok Gordo so now what turbo to get ... Let's assume I'm building a 1.5jz
Gordo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 No idea.......... Something big enough to go to some serious boost levels. Have seen some killer Borg Warner T4s being used on the Supra forums. But don't boost more than your pistons can take.
WhoreMouth_Jr 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 I love my s360 even though I'm only giving it 11psi. it has plenty room to go way more up
shlammed 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 Thanks gordo! I'm gonna try and pick it up tonight. Ok Gordo so now what turbo to get ... Let's assume I'm building a 1.5jz What kind of power and what's the turbo budget.
shlammed 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 It actually does a bit if it's a true twin scroll turbo on a divided manifold..Splitting hairs. I'm with Gordo. Doesn't make much of a difference. The air temp from morning to mid day makes more difference than we are talking here.
Dirty_Rotor 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 Idk I guess $1k max just saw the price of new t78's lol Power? More than stock less than 500. I guess I'm more concerned about when the power comes on and how hard but I assume that can be tuned for? Please keep in mind up until now I was looking for stock twins but people are asking more then I want to pay for a full assembly, manifold and what have you. And I still gotta pick a wastegate after choosing a turbo....
Nigel_Vertigo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 Maybe a Borg 8376 sxe. Or maybe even an S200 series for under 500.
WhoreMouth_Jr 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 The air temp from morning to mid day makes more difference than we are talking here. You control the air temp in the morning vs mid day?
Gordo 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 Really WM.......? You should be in politics. D_R, GReddy made a nice T4 to T3 cast steel adaptor. Came with their FC kit for people who wanted a lesser turbo than the T78/88. I think I have a few around here still.
WhoreMouth_Jr 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2017 All I'm saying is if you can get any edge via factors you can control, why not?
battleaxe 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 get a borg warner turbo, inexpensive, oil cooled, will make your power goals. i have a s300 borg, and i enjoy it. i also have not much else to compare it to. and really, its gunna make you go fast anyways so whatever. we have a local guy here who makes custom turbos in whatever you want, so almost everyone local here goes to him, dude is a magician (good turbo scientist?) when i got mine the shop i got it from got it machined for v band vs borgs weird flange
ChriSOL 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 marmon flange lol
shlammed 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 sxe200 7670 would be nice for your power and investment. its a 57mm turbo. I did the compressor map stuff a while back for it and its a good turbo for 550hp or so on a 1j.
Kyle 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 that'd be all in on high boost Matt. That's not how you wanna size things. You're logic is asking for problems. But yeah, a t3 adapter and a small turbo like holset/s2xx and rock the fuck out with 400whp on some 440s and an safc for life
shlammed 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 It will all be high boost. 2.5L with all supporting mods consistent changing turbos with the same footprint and a/r they will take roughly the same boost to make the same power. power difference from efficiency (housing or wheel design efficiency) make a difference but its mass flow. fwiw, a pte 5858 on a 1jz in a buddies 1j soarer made 550hp at 25psi. 57 vs 58mm shouldn't matter much but precision doesn't provide compressor mapping to directly compare. Gordo 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 550 seems low for 25 psi.
Demesio 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2017 2.5L gordo... I'm making around 500 at 18psi... there's your half a liter difference.
WhoreMouth_Jr 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2017 Let's assume I'm building a 1.5jz
Gordo 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2017 I know..... You are making 500 @ 18, vs him only making 50 more @ 7 more psi. Seems weak.
shlammed 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2017 I think he has the smaller turbine housing and its an otherwise stock 1j. 550 on a 2.5L with a 5858 isn't maxing it out but with a smaller turbine housing im sure there is some high end to be had if that's really what he was going for. its a skid machine... I don't know what they need to be competitive anymore but 550 seems like enough to spin the tires for them. When I was drifting 10 years ago a diff, seat and coils with a small turbo making 300 and you were competitive.
