bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2020 ah yea. Expensive but I've never heard anything bad about them either.
Gordo 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2020 I like my Momo adaptor, but only fits Momo pattern wheels. They don't cost as much as a Works, due to there being more of them in the states. If you are planning to go quick release, most of the are dual pattern, so they would fit the Momo hub, and what ever wheel you have.
ChriSOL 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2020 @bigtoepfer send yard info if it’s local and i’ll check it out. re: your hub question, look on yahoo auctions jp for hubs that fit toyotas w the same spline. i found 2 nardi/personal hubs that are SOLID fucking metal that way, and they were dirt cheap. bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2020 @ChriSOL I'll look in to those hubs thanks. I thought the yard was near you but when I called them I realized they were in like North Carolina. Didn't realize there was a Dallas there too.

bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2020 I learned nine years ago that when you do a JZ swap you change the harmonic dampner. Mine separated on the 1JZ in the MX83 about three hours from home. And of course you can't just walk up to the autozone and grab one. Much less change it in the parking lot easily. Lessons learned only once. So here the 2JZ was to soon reach its 25 birthday. Looked to have original dampner, pretty much original everything and "90,xxxkm" so now pretty much everything except the head gasket and oil pan gasket has been changed. Rebuilt the VVTi cam gear. It was definitely crusty and leaking. Glad we did that. Almost ready to go and soon to be back in the car. Need to do some wiring on the trans because the idiots cut the harness just before the trans. Go figure. Using a 3F410 and turns out the mechanical speedo cable plugs right in. Which is fantastic. Probably the best news I've had since this whole thing started. Was hoping to be driving the car on Mardi Gras but don't think it's realistic.
Nigel_Vertigo 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2020 I should probably get a Fluidamper before even attempting to start my car.
Demesio 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2020 Fluidampr is the way to go.. I had mine shoot out under the car and it was never seen again. I think I was pretty luck since I was bouncing off the limiter at the time.
bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 I'm balling on a budget. Someday when I get a good job I'll get one. HAHA. I'm trying to save enough to get myself to toyotafest again this year. And in a perfect world get suspension and wheels before then.
Demesio 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 We need to plan something better than toyotafest. I think it's just a waste of time for the whole day, stopping by for an hour or two and then getting the fuck out of there is way better.
bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2020 well toyotafest and BBQ would be nice. Last time I did some other stuff in town it's 3/6 so here is a 36 Sitting high with no motor.

bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2020 Ohh thats nice. @ChriSOL I'll have to see if my wife will let me order it. I really wanna put the wheel back in. I haven't been doing a good job of updating. Just realized I haven't been here since before we all got locked down. I'm hoping since Texas is opened back up I'll be able to go over to Austin and get the car soon. Various things have slowed down the process of the swap. But lots of awesome shit has happened too. The exhaust is almost done. Fully divorced. Resonators in the original stock cat location, and mufflers from and old 60s jag. Guess I never shared photos of them here. Everything is fully welded up to the axle now. dual 1.75" with tiny 1.75" vbands just before the axle. So cute. I'll post up another photo in a bit. Since it will only ever let me upload one at a time.

bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2020 On 2/2/2020 at 7:01 AM, ChriSOL said: how are you ditching the linkage gas pedal for a cable? the world wonders... My biggest thing was I wanted to keep a floor mounted pedal. I don't know why but I did. It's not my drift slut it's my daily and I just like floor mounted pedals because I'm old. So using a combo of the originally linkage pedal sawed apart and welded to a pieces of a cable throttle pedal. It's a frankensteins monster that should be interesting. I'll try to add a photo here later. It's only just come together a few days ago.
bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2020 @ChriSOL I ordered a hub from Japan. Looking forward to having my shit mounted correctly. Also it runs now. So that's awesome. Just a little left and then it should be driving as well.
bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2020 We had replaced the brake master because it was old, rusty, and leaking. But because it was all those things it had let plenty of moisture in the system. And so the front brakes seem to have issues. I was wanting to up grade them anyway, and go with X7 or X8 front struts. @Gordo I need x8 front strut assemblies. preferably with brakes and everything. You got some laying around I know. How much?

bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2020 @Gordo after discussing with various persons it turns out swapping the X8 front suspension on to the X3 is more of a pain in the dick than some people led me to believe. most likely gonna put X7 parts on later. I'll see what I can find.
bigtoepfer 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2020 Considering how bad the bearing...race?...was in the rear end on the passenger side I kind of expected the front spindles to be a mess when we pulled it apart. But it's actually pretty. So changed brake rotors, calipers, pads, and hoses. And of course changed wheel bearings inner and outer. Also learned that packing bearings is quite cathartic. Shortly after this when doing the other side we realized that since we didn't have an impact, it was indeed easier to set the hub in the the wheel, and use that to give leverage....doh Here is a beautiful brake rotor... And here is a brake rotor after six miles and up to 80 mph. As you can see the brakes are still dragging. So I replaced the hoses. Thinking maybe they are gummed up, but fuck it I'm replacing everything else in the front why not replace them too. So after bleeding and going for another test drive definitely better, but still dragging. And i've exhausted my brake knowledge. I didn't have issues before the master cylinder was changed. But probably since the old master was 40+ years old and super crummy and leaking there is trash somewehre. So I'm taking it to a shop tomorrow and they can work some kind of magic on it hopefully. Because I just want to drive this thing after what....five fucking months.
Gordo 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2020 The rod from your peddle to master may be adjusted too long, not letting the lines to fully vent back to the master.
