Curse of the Cressida

Recommended Posts

I've had this car since July 7, 2012. I bought it from a good friend of mine, Matt Peterson, hes an old member on here and for the most part got out of cars. I bought it with a 1JZ running, but would buck at mid to high rpm. Had a fmic, full 3inch exhaust, intake, fuel pump. no gauges, only gauge that works was the digi dashs' fuel gauge. Once I bought it I cleaned it up and made a gauge pod in the dash, my first fiberglassing project. Once the gauges were in and working I found that the car was overboosting to 24+psi on the stock twins, I drove it essentially out of boost for 4 or so months as a daily driver, then took it off the road to do little by little upgrades...that turned into nearly 4yrs off the road. I ended up changing just about everything on the motor. Left the motor and trans in the car and changed everything attached to it.

As the years went on, I started doing stuff. Started with stock twisn removal as most everyone does eventually. Then i started to collect parts for the single turbo swap. I had some z32 brakes in the shop and got my friend Warren at BC Works to make me some custom brackets to attach the z32 brakes. Has s9 RCAs, 30mm aluminum z32 calipers and rotors, russell brake lines of fittings and stainless lines all 4 corners. Later on I swapped in a x7 rack with some urethane rack bushings, extended the LCAs 40mm and used 2 of the long x8 tie rods, which have a good 1/2inch engaugement luckily. This has resulted in -7 camber in the front. I have version 1 s9 arms for the rear, kaaz 2way, s9 diff and subframe bushings to go in after it gets tuned.

changed the clutch master to a celica unit i believe, a stainless line from DM i think and left the slave cylinder. currently need to still adjust the mklI pedal as i dont feel it engages fully. I deleted the ABS unit and reused as many lines as I could so now that is all so the brakes are super simple and normal, seem to work decent, the rotors need to be turned or replaced at a later date. the motor i took the intake manifold apart and redid the fuel lines as well. now runs 440cc injectors from an aristom fuel line to a z32 fuel filter, removed the dampener, got bard fitting on the end then also added a russell fuel pressure gauge on the manifold to make sourcing those fuel problems a lot easier. went to a non TC throttle body and new o rings. got a oil cooler and sandwich plate from japan as well to delete all the factory bullshit. had a machinist friend of mine turn in some new threads on the factory oil filter feed tube, couldnt find one in a parts store or anywhere to make it work..now it does. runs the oil pressure and oil temp sensors in the sandwich and has the filter right off the block

did a china exhaust manifold, chopped off the hks style flange and added a tial flange then bolted a tial mvr on. made a hard oil return line from some rb25 factory drains then made a russell drain, -10an iirc. its a Borg Warner unit, a s300 with a v band flange. then i built a stainless downpipe and attached it to the exhaust that was already on the car. Warren at BC works helped me make the front mount piping. runs an s13 koyo that was modded for a buddies 2jz s13 that he hydro locked, so this all matches the factory piping for the rad hose. i just tig'd on some feet on the bottom and make some brackets.

and now fast forward to now. in the time i started this project, i bought a MKII supra, modded that. bought a house, moved in, reno'd my garage from nothing to a work space, then bought a civic, and modded that, and now i have finally finished this to a point i can use it as a car.

going to do a solid once over then get Bill at Indy Speed to tune the car and hopefully drive it for a bit. then do the rear suspension and diff then do some skids in it.

this is why i didnt want to do anything in terms of media other than my tumblr for pics because i knew it was going to be a long haul.

most cressidas are parted, given up on, trashed..generally never used.

my mentality has always been get the car going, make sure its safe, and sick...then work on painting stuff and make pretty.

after building the civic it really changed my mind about cars in general. civics are a lot of fun, not heaty, and generally super boring to look at. i can drive fun and have great time, not worry about cops and go for sick rips.

now that the cressida is back to being a thing, ill be making the supra a lot better and continue drifting that and swap in a sr20 once the 5m takes a bump, when it eventually will. i chose the sr because i have a ton of spare parts from the s13.

Matt drove it at a cellblock event or 2. i think he drove here at my home track on the island as well.

i lurked because i didnt have a lot to contribute and a lot of what i did has been done many times. felt i wanted to share what i have done. toyotas are a lot of fun and i have come to prefer them over the rest. thought, im really fond of Hondas.

i cant wait to cruise around in this in the summer time. i plan to skid it a few times to see how it does. the supra has always been fun to drift and the s13 is my go to for fun skids.

Same supra as I had at the s9 BBQ yup! Drifted it the rest of 2014 and in 2015 fixed a couple things. Added the defis, changed the steering wheel to a dart Izumi wheel, put one of my recaros in and fabbed up a rail. Got the bigger wats, 9.5 and 10.5. Welded the stock LSD, did one drift event on that in 2015 at the end there. Time will tell if that lasts an event or more. Going to try x8 LCA and kunuckle in the front to see if they're the same taper. The lca's are longer than supras and the knuckles are quite a bit shorter. Just unsure if the RCA spacing is correct and if the taper in the knuckle is the same for tie rod. Then do subframe risers in the rear and finally paint everything back there. I'd like to drift it this year while I fix a few problems on the s13. Maybe make the s13 not look like such a mess too.

The rca spacing I believe is different. I run x8 lca and knuckles on my x7.

You might be able to run x8 lca with an ma6 or x7 shortened knuckle tough.

I believe the tapper is the same for the tierods.

This is all assuming x7 and ma6 knuckles and stuff are the same haha

Thanks for the heads up. Does that mean you have the x8 strut assembly in your x7?/5lug? If the knuckles don't fit I'll chop the stock ones and make shorter. I just have this stuff lying around as cores for the x8 if I decide to do short knuckles on it as well. I assume x7 and a6 are the same, if not similar.

Ya I use x8 struts on my car. I believe the ball joint pitch is the same (I could be wrong here.)

Could probaly run t3 or xm knuckles or the cut and weld special to reuse your ma struts

just looked at the t3 rcas i have online and theyre a lot different than the x8 more tear drop shape. might be able to use the LCAs...or ill just extend these about 20mm and then cut and shut the stock knuckles. T3 can fuck right off with their garbage products. im just going to mod my stock stuff and should be just fine. just read kennys thread and it didnt have a lot of info but the pictures showed him saying not being able to use the stock strut rod with the x8 LCAs, i assume its just hole spacing, which would just mean drolling new holes and reinforcing if it looks in a weak area. not a big deal. also looking at moving the rack forward with the knuclkles being shortened. i have a couple front subframe and give er a go on. did that on the s13 and it made a world of difference

Current issues. Need to raise the front, rubs too much on the fender. Need to mod inner rear arches because it rubs under squat. Safc isn't adjusting fuel? Out of boost its 14-15 AFR and then 12-10 while in boost. Adding fuel down low and removing up high hasnt changed the afrs. I think im hitting fuel cut? I have a fcd to put in. Thought the ECU was modded, guess not. I thought I put a 7psi spring in the tial and the vibrant Manuel boost controller is off, and it's boosting to 1.5 bar then it feels like I hit a wall. Hits 10 AFR when the stop comes. My front springs are also binding.. Happens on the supra as well, both stance coilovers. Springs are seated with a turn or two of preload..so iunno
