Vented hood

Recommended Posts

I would like a vented hood for my x8, but all the universal drop vents, (like S9's), look like they would leave your engine bay exposed to the elements. I liked the design of the hood that got started by I think DM, but there were never any copies made. I have a spare hood and have been considering chopping it up and seeing if I could come up with something. I've started drawing up a few ideas and wanted to see if you guys had any input on what might help cooling or looks. Here's what I got.

I currently have the stock hood being moulded, After that is done i plan on doing single drop vent like my kidsheart bonnet and also a URAS/Ztune/everyotherbrand style one with the 5 slots as well.

but yeah postage to USA would be a bit.

Well, I either buy one from you, or I buy one out of Japan..........

Shipping would be about the same.

Yosh, I have a Japanese drop vent to bond on to a stock hood, and it is almost identical to the DM (which I helped him design, the ingrate).

I think there are pictures up here somewhere......

And Gordo, I remembered you talking about wanting the vent to drain in front of the engine, that's what made me realize how exposed all the vents I've seen used leave the engine bay. I tried looking for the DM hood, but haven't found it yet. And holy shir I forgot about the hood on the kids heart jzx. It's similar to what I drew up.

PM your e-mail, I have a few images of the only hood DM made, that went on his car, before he completely checked out of reality.

The drop vents I have mount so the vent opening is between the radiator and the engine. Hot air escapes but your motor is not exposed.

You can mount them anywhere but that is where they are intended to go.

Couldn't find any better pictures but these should give you an idea.

@ Lucas. That's similar to what I'm looking for. But I'd want to modify it so the sides would fallow the body lines on the hood.

Don't cut out to much of the hood.

If you widen the space the hood could get flimsy.

Yeah. the freedom hood i have is flimsy as at high speed it vibrates

but then it is also a thin layer carbon that is almost see through.

Here's what last owner did to the hood of my Cressida. Not to worried about water intrusion. I have a coil pack cover going in and any water that sits on head with evaporate shortly after start up.

I like those drop vents! How can I get one?

I used a Ford mustang vent on a track S14 back in the day. Kinda hot boy, but it turned out ok and works really well. GT500 maybe? Can get them from the factory for like $80

First a new "Kyle", now a new "Mark"? We've already seen everything the previous owner has done to your car. Fuck off.
