Urrik 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 I guess I'll take a break from New Vegas and step outside for a second. Gathering bits together for paintings that might still happen. Copying Bill I think with this MA70 lip: I was considering finding a rear bumper cover to match, but the rear X83 thing doesn't bother me that much. Also, new clutch. DiscoShit 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 I also have the fx400. Never let me down. That lip looks good, where'd you get it?
Kyle 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 ^ second that. Id like one for my actual mk3 haha. I always wondered what the group a bumper duct would like like on an x8

ChriSOL 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2015 i almost forgot about those signal covers
Urrik 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2015 I lied, I hate the stock rear bumper. So I hacked it up. Stuffed it in a good two inches or so. Obviously this looks stupid: So I'll try to mount the bumper cover to the body in a way that stretches it out a bit and fills the gap (probably won't use a bumper frame, the ones from both of my cars look like the Titanic). After that, it will still look pretty stupid most likely.
Gordo 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2015 The reason Toyota made our bumper the way they did, was so if you had a big family, you could sit a few people on it, and run a bungy cord from one wheel well, around to the other to keep them from falling off. (or was that extra bags of groceries?) Anyway, like your idea, and it looks way better than stock. You might look at plastic welding mount points on the inside of it, and retaining some of the original frame work.
bradlee 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2015 i've had this same idea. interested to see how it turns out, and whether you feel like it was worth the effort.
Urrik 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2015 ^ Actually yeah, I could try plastic welding that clip in there so the sides snap in like factory. But I'm also overlapping the sides to the body, so I might attach it to the quarter panel somehow. For the center, I cut the top along that mounting tab which I'll use with some flat stock behind it. For the frame, if anything, I might just cut the original mounts off and weld a tube to them just to have something in there. If I keep this free-ish and continue to do the rest drunk on Sundays, it'll be worth it to me

Urrik 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Quilted bag of dicks complete. The XXL grilled stufft rear bumper came out okay I guess. Somehow it still manages to look like it's sagging a little bit like every USDM bumper. And holy shit this steering is scary. I think all of the oil from the four 7Ms that used to be in this car finally dissolved the rest of my rack bushings.
Tbone 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Looks good.I like how you opened up the front of the bumper so the fmic can breathe. That's exactly what i want to do. Really makes me want to buck up and get a x81 front bumper.Arrrgghh being broke sucks.
ChriSOL 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 this is the right way to handle making a beat to shit body work for you, as opposed to rickys trailer park banger. i was thinking about cutting my license plate frane shit out on my cresta bumper too.
RickyFromThePark 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 I have some serious body issues. Not to mention that my car looks like shit. This thing looks decent though. Would look very good if its outfit matched.
Andrew 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 i like it! makes me want bolt on flares even more, dont care what people say i think cressidas look good with them. Rear bumper cover came out pretty good aswell.
Urrik 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 I'm getting two narrower front flares that I might use because I don't really like how I chopped them off along the fender. That, and they're noticeably wider and visibly bulkier than the rear pieces. Bumper cutout was a no-brainer, front plates aren't too strictly enforced around here. Usually just a tack on to add insult to injury if you're already getting fisted by the law. Yeah paint won't happen this year. I dragged wayyy too much ass. I also became more undecided on a color. I originally wanted a graphite metallic and black two tone, but back when I first thought about owning an X8, I imagined having a white one. Thinking about single stage gloss white with black trim/flares/lip/skirts. Would hide some of the shittier body work better. Also considered this two tone scheme. lol
Gordo 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 I like the 2-tone X-8s that I've seen in Japan, but they don't go to such extreme difference in colors. Like white/gray, or white/bronze. That blob hipster-mobile you posted above is too much (besides being hidious in any color).
ChriSOL 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 ^ gordo that buick is owned and driven exclusively by "normal" people your age. the ones that dont build shitbox cars and unapologetically fill their homes with rare imported parts.
bradlee 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 love the look of this thing, even in harlequin mode. 2 tone is a good idea, but i'm still partial to the 1990s s-chassis and lexus schemes.
