Did you like the look of it, or did it end up looking like ass? I would assume the differing body lines probably made it look weird

Alright, things have happened. Imported GX81 Mark II fenders. Put them on to look at the differences between the X83 fenders. I remember looking at a thread Brian posted in a long time ago explaining how he molded the front of his fenders to fit his chaser corner lights. I plan on doing something similar. I'm gonna chop the front of the Mark II fenders and weld the corner light section onto the back two thirds of my USDM cressida fenders. As you can tell in the pics below, the rear portion of the Mark II fenders don't fit at all. The corner is way off, the body line is way off, and the door hits the edge of the fender. Another thing I didn't anticipate is the Mark II fenders and hood are taller than the X83 hood and fenders. If I use the rear portion of the USDM fenders and the Mark II hood that I'm eventually going to get, from either the russian con-man or the one I'll import, the hood will be taller where it meets the windshield. The body lines aren't gonna work period I don't think. You can't tell very easily in this pic, but there is a height difference in the rear of the hood. I'm thinking my chopping will go something like this: However I do it, it's a pain in the ass. I'm scared to chop shit up after spending too much money importing these damn things. Such is life.

Can't help it lol. The wheels were bought after my Russian frp fiasco. In other news, I got the Lexus running today after the full teardown and rebuild. Now I can focus on the cressida again

Yep. I really don't want to go to all the effort of contacting the Russian embassy to try and get my money back. Might not be worth all the headache to put an investigation together

Yep, let my blunders educate people. That's the only good that can come out of this

Thanks Zach. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the conundrum he's in. He did get a bunch of orders placed from people on this site and I'd assume elsewhere, likely his Instagram and Facebook. I just wish he'd communicate more. I'll likely order an OEM hood and fenders any day now. Not interested in busting my ass in the paint booth on the FPR Russian stuff only to have the gelcoat fall apart later. OEM bodywork > everything else

Ah, that makes sense. Well, I talked to my bank and Paypal. Neither can help me get my money back. Followed Gordo's advice and found a jzx81 hood and fenders on BidJDM for a little over a grand shipped to my door. If I had known about that service before I ordered, I wouldn't have even considered buying from this guy. Might buy the OEM hood and fenders and then try and sell this FRP stuff later, if I ever get it.

Robaphent, you're just thinking about molding a stock mx83 hood? Why go to all the trouble, just to save weight? I would keep my stock hood, but it doesn't work with the jzx81 lights and grill, hence why I ordered from him.

Lol seriously... I will admit, I asked him for a jzx81 hood, which he only produced once quite a while ago. He's produced lots of the fenders though. It's obvious he's producing his products not in the order the orders were placed. Looks like all I can do is wait 🙁

I talked to a coworker who makes his own body panels for his oval track car. He used to work for bayliner making fiberglass boat hulls. He said the reason most gelcoat is shit on fenders is because people don't deposit fiberglass bits into the gelcoat with a chopper gun. A middle of the road pneumatic chopper gun is 400 bucks. I figure as long as the general shape of the hood and fenders is good and everything lines up, maybe I can remove or chip off the crappy gelcoat and redo it with a chopper gun. Hell of a lot of work just to make a kit work without it falling apart.

I appreciate it, thank you. I messaged him through Instagram on December 12th, and emailed him December 19th. No response to either.

Chris, it's the new slang that millennials use to disparage baby boomers. Ok. He said November 28th was when my order would be done. I waited two to three weeks before messaging him on Instagram and by email. Had my Russian friend call him. Left a message and still no response. Even if he told me he would be shipping my stuff a month from now I wouldn't mind. But no communication period isn't cool.

This is shitty. Robaphent, when did you place your order? I placed mine at the end of September last year

I wonder if it's possible to basically chip off all of his shit gelcoat and redo it somehow. I don't know jack shit about fiberglass, other than it's really messy, sticky and stinky. If I had a set of jzx81 mark ii fenders and a hood to work off of, I'd do it my own fucking self. But if I had said hood and fenders, I wouldn't be in this dumb non-OEM Russian fiberglass predicament now, would I? I'm dreaming of a Christmas miracle where I go back to my house and there's a super high quality set of fenders and hood on my doorstep with no shipping damage. Pretty unlikely though

Interesting. Looks like a lot of work, but that's super helpful info, thanks gordo. I see myself being a skeptical grouchy old forum member in the future because of crap like this, can't say I blame gordo's pessimistic outlook... probably because he's been around the block with people like this. This shit makes me hate my build that much more. It doesn't motivate me to continue on, that's for sure.

Yeah. The guy asked me to send money to friends and family. I thought nothing of it, I just figured I would help him dodge the PayPal fees. In doing so, it turns out I sacrificed my ability to file a claim through PayPal. I might ask my bank to dispute the transaction since my bank account is linked to my PayPal. I was shipped a really shitty light for my SC400 through ebay, but that was a 100 dollar loss, not a $1050 loss. Some things I can let go, but not this. I'll keep fighting it, but who knows how well it will go. I am generally not comfortable with asking for money from family or friends, let alone strangers, so although I appreciate it, I wouldn't accept it.

Somebody throw this guy in dead weight or ban his ass. Paid 1100 for a hood and fenders. He said it would be done and shipped by November 28th. I tried messaging him by email and via Instagram where he sells. No response over the last several weeks. Now I have to deal with the whole PayPal dispute process to get my money back. Yes, I'm pissed.

    Curse of the Cressida

If my car is sitting outside, I use those dry-z-air things. They do a really good job of keeping mildew and mold out. Probably won't pull all the seat water out, but it helps a lot if you're away from your car for awhile. Weird that your headliner is dry though, leaks are always a fun mystery to track down

It's a pretty small operation, and anyone (obviously not me) with any idea of the shipping costs of large items will know better, so I think outing him is unwarranted. I don't think any other jzxp members have used him. I'll stick to buyee for any large items in the future

    Sleeper MX83 build

Hmmm... honestly I'm not sure if I should out him or not. Previous dealings with him have been good. Shipping smaller stuff like lights or grills has gone well. Most of this fuckup is related to me failing to read the shipping section on his site. He doesn't have the resources to ship multiple large items in a container. I think he deals in very small quantities. He is a one man operation who ships everything in Japan, not just car parts.

Yep, I got my seats from Thailand via EMS in a big ass box that probably could have fit eight wheels for $300 flat. I'll go through a different shipper from now on. This one occurrence is enough to lose my business. I've never bitched about the exchange. Our exchange is great, I'm just mad that I got dicked on the shipping price.
  25. BoristheCat

    Sleeper MX83 build

I had them shipped via air through EMS. After the importer gave me my $620 shipping quote, I asked him if he could ship them on the slow boat for a cheaper price. He said he couldn't, because the packages exceeded the size or weight limit. I think that's bullshit though, since anything large and/or heavy is nearly always shipped freight by boat. Either way, what's done is done. Don't worry battleaxe, you've bitched in detail about the Canadian exchange rate in every thread I've seen you post in, including this one. We get it, you're unhappy about it
