    my x7 daily

Been a while since I updated this thread, but I'll catch it up to speed. Basically, this car has a taken a major back seat to other things I've been doing lately, unfortunately. Been building a motorcycle, bought a 510, fixing my house up, helping my friends fix/sell their cars. I decided I liked this thing better as a daily than another project and scrapped the air bag idea, which was getting expensive fast with little progress. I'm just not smart enough to figure out a safe way to do the front, so I gave up on it, and moved on. But now that it's tax return season, I'm dropping a bit of money into this thing to make it more practical and look a bit nicer. Bought some T3 weld in 8k front coilovers to complete the front end (already had bought the camber plates, sw20 struts and rca's) and bought some stiffer 9k eibach springs for the rear. Rides like a fucking dream now! Perfect spring rates for a comfortable daily at this height. Swapping my 5spd parts from my totaled car over soon also, and hopefully painting the car this summer, so should be a few updates on the way. Here's some pics. Oh yeah, I also wrecked this thing, so I had no choice but to throw the rust hood back on. Don't get me wrong, I still dig it, I'd just rather have my paint matched hood on here, lol.

That is with 1" spacers, lol. It wasn't too bad at 0° camber, but now that I'm running a bit negative, it's more noticeable, rear is ok though. Might run some 30mm spacers up front later.

Not bouncy at all so far. I don't know how long they'll last against the 8k springs I'm using, but so far so good. Here's a slightly better pic I took tonight after work. Still shit though, lol.

Yeah, I still have the wheels. Lost a center cap though, so that fucking sucks. Don't think I'll ever get rid of them, even though I need 1" spacers to look right on the x7, lol. If you are planning on tracking it at all, I would spend the extra money on the serialnine kit. Stance coilovers are amazing, I've had good experiences with them, and all my friends that run them seem to like them as well. This setup still seems very strange to me, though it doesn't make any clunks or creeks, the bearing upper hat system seems like a shitty and strange solution to wearing out spherical bushings in camber plates. So far my t3 kit seems ok, but I'll have to run on them for a while to build a solid opinion about them. With this setup, I can lay the crossmember on the ground, and still have about 1" of travel on the strut. I can literally go as low as I want in the front. I used front sw20 struts, and I've gotten some grief for it, but they are substantially shorter than rear sw20 struts, and so far, they ride well. No blown strut bounce or anything, but of course I'll need to run on them for a while to see how long they'll hold up. Here's some shitty pics, very very shitty phone pics, but pics. I'm going to a meet on sunday with some coworkers, so hopefully there'll be a better pic then, but here's what I have right now. btw, I cut 1 wrap off the rear eibachs. There is a flat wrap meant to sit on a flat spring perch. I removed it and got this height in the rear, which is roughly 1" higher than I was before on my cut celi-sup sustech springs.

I honestly don't drive this thing hard at all. Just baby it everywhere and drive the speed limit, lol. I just wanted something that would be slightly more comfortable to daily on without raising the car up. The one major thing I was trying to eliminate is bottoming out my struts (I was basically sitting on them before with no bump stop). I also added the rca's too, wasn't getting bump steer before, but I'm about .5" lower now than I was before.

Front Kyb Mr2 oe replacement strut insert and monotube Camaro shocks in the rear with the t3 front sleeves and eibach 500lb rear springs. Drove it a bit today, and it seems to handle well, but I'll know more after I drive it a bit. So far, it's a huge improvement over what I had (stock front struts and cut celica sustech springs), which isn't necessarily sayin much, lol.

Good to know. I finished welding them up yesterday, but haven't test driven yet. We'll see how it does :/

T3 weld in coilover install question

Any specific reason? The upperhat/camber plate assembly alone is shorter than the factory x7 bearing plates, I didn't measure, but if I were to guess I'd say by about 2". I also shortened the strut tube 2" for sw20 struts, so I've got some added travel and was also able to mount the spring perch 2" lower because of it (rests almost on top of the brake hose bracket). Should be able to drop it on it's crossmember with the setup unless I'm mistaken. The upper hat system really does irritate/confuse me though. Seems like a step backwards.

Figures, lol. Also, does anyone else think the t3 upper hat system is weird? Seems like it would keep the strut assembly from articulating correctly and put stress on everything else under heavy load/cornering/bumps. Sure it takes the load off the camber plate bearing/cup, but shit. Especially if you are planning on running a bit of negative camber. Seems weird to me. Also, sorry about not poking around here too much lately. Been busy with my motorcycle project, haven't touched my x7 til now.

I think I figured it out, kind of. I was trying to use the strut tubes off my totaled x7, which had tems. I measured them, and they're about 2-3mm larger diameter than the non tems strut tubes in my current x7. Don't know if it's because of the tems or not, but for some reason there's a difference in size.

lol. I might have to. He won't answer until tomorrow though, I was hoping to do this shit today. Oh well.
  13. Don't know if anyone else bought a set on here, but I'm mocking everything up before I start cutting, and I've noticed that the ground control sleeves and the weld on perches are a little too small to slip over the strut tubes. Are you supposed to heat them up? Checking before I actually do it in case I have to return them.
