    Midnight Battle Station

Alright, so here it is. My zenki '91 x83 . I've been lurkin' on here for a long time now, and have been building it up properly. I already did an intro a long time ago and didn't want to waste anyone's life with a failure build thread until I had it running. So here she is. I drove around looking like this for a while, took a trip across Canada, from Saskatoon,Sk, out to Vancouver, Victoria and Tofino, and back, on a 7m-ge. So I will leave that engine at that respect level. I sold it to a friend with a mk2 Supra. Styling in downtown Victoria. Work VS-SS up front 18x9.5 , 215/40R18 Then all of a sudden this.. .. turned into this This is running by the way, Ill put up a video as soon as I upload it onto the computer. Yes those are actual x8 headlight covers from my minty blue parts car. Yeah I know the engine bay is a little dirty, but getting the car on the road is more important at this point. I mocked up my bn sports front to see how it fit over the modified x83 bumper frame. I still have bodywork and paint to do. The tilted short shifter fits great, I know the red boot looks gross, but its just temporary. The w55 is300 should work fine until I go single. R154 is the way of the future. Guage mounting plate also temporary. I have to give out some props to xcessive mfg for their perfect fitting seat bracket, engine brackets and mounts. Their stuff looks amazing and and works amazing. Also gotta thank Big Shooter for hooking me up with a schmorgasbord of parts on this car including wheels, tein coils to name a few. Also thanks to Jack and Alex for the BN aero. My doom pit. Pending custom 3 inch exhaust with dual tailpipe. I gotta give credit to Guy 'Smiley' on my harness. Runs amazing on the x90 ecu. It was basically pnp except for T5 plug and very minor wiring jobs. Its amazing what him and Aphexero do to our falling apart 20+ year harnesses. So at this point i'm waiting on a map sensor from Austrailia. I'm about to go and paint up my haggered garage walls and install my fmic. Then I have to switch my front halfshaft to an mx73 so the splines match the w55 and order a w55 clutch slave (as w58 is not compatible). After that get an electric fan, then I should be able to take it out for a test drive and work out the details. My plans for the near future is to install my HY35 holset with a driftmotion header and downpipe kit. Tune my safc, swap out the 440's for 550's, install BN side and rear skirts, and maybe next year a complete paint job and r154 swap. Once all is said and done, I can utilize my extra two doors , the right way.

Only the things pictured above are going to be gold, engine bay, hoses/fittings and tanks will all be black, and some polished aluminum pieces as well. The idea is for the engine to pop out at you. Yeah i think i'll hold off on the intake for now. I was driving the car up until winter, and I plan to have it back on the road in the spring. But yes some serious gold member vibes hah.

Got my block assembled for the most part.. I'm currently porting and polishing the head. Just removing flash casting and bringing the combustion chambers to a mirror finish to prevent carbon and hot spots from happening. Going to cc balance each of them. I got a powder coating rig from eastwood. Now that I have it, I just want to powered coat everything. Also as you can see.. I have an obsession with gold.. I'm on a hacked ramen diet, because I need more car parts. Shlammed sold me his z32 brakes. I think I'm going to powder coat them when I get some time.. I was to lazy to go take a picture, so I figured I'd recycle his picture. Trying to decide if this intake will be worth it. There are two aftermarket intake designs that I know of, the shit ebay one and this one.. I'de really like to know the gains on using them. I'm currently leaning to running my oem intake for now, so I can afford shlammed's ross balancer. I'de also like other peoples opinions on the aero... I wanted it for so long... now I have it, but I'm 30 years old now, and after one year, it's already lost its appeal and I'm missing the sleeper look of the jzx81 oem bumpers. I can also lower my car and not have to worry about scraping the kit up. I also sold my HY35 and opted for an HE351cw, my reasoning was simple.. the he351 is supposed to boost just as quick but flows much better, I didnt want to go the hx35/40 route because I wanted quick spool, cheap and robust. I can easily find another holset to replace this one if I have to. Mine is currently torn apart for rebuild and powder coating. I also got some new 550cc bosch ev14 top feed injectors flow matched by performance injection, which im pretty stoked about. Having a heated garage for once really helps with progress..
  7. Why don't you just buy an ebay manifold and be done with it? Seems to work for everyone else.. Why would you want a bottom mount setup? I thought the whole point of having a jzx was to have a top mount so you can show off your turbo? AN lines for your brake booster vac hoses... seriously?

Nice work. Can any holset guys chime in? A friend wants to trade me my hy35 for his hx35. I really like the hy35 for the 1jz because it has a smaller hot side.. But since I'm going 2j bottom end.. Anyone running one on a 3.0 bottom end? If so when does it spool up by? I'm planning on making 500whp only and want fast spool. Should I just keep the hy? Basically what I'm asking is which turbo is better for 1jz and 2jz. My guess is the hy35 would spool up super fast (2-3000rpm) and max out at 500hp on a 3.0 bottom end. Yes, if you tried overtightening the top nut the coil would turn with the assembly and bind, to loose and the spherical bearing would clunk. So I wanted to get to the bottom of it. S9 remedied the situation asap. My guess is stance didnt anticipate people using them for daily driving when they first came out so they didnt put torrington (needle) bearings in the top hat. Maybe because theyre wear and tear.. No clue. All i know is my front end is 100% remedied. Im sure if someone wasnt in a warranty situation they could easily size a needle bearing for their top hat to make their own assembly as battleaxe did.

Ok so I got imgur. So here's what I got done this summer. Got sick of coil bind and other bs, so contacted s9, guess my coilovers were the first series that didnt have torrington upper hats. So they sent me some in the mail, problem solved. Rebuilt my hy35 and polished the compressor housing. Got gx81 front lights and grill, and they were packed by a mongoloid. He reimbursed me so i ordered replacements. Found some shit as crimps from the dude I paid to build my conversion harness when I was 20. (back before I knew what I was doing. Seems that all my gremlins where a shotty crimp at the map wire and a dead open crimp on the rear cam sensor. So I cleaned up the harness, no more codes. Took some pictures before doing some midnight sessions. Did a compression test on the 1jz and found 100psi dry 120 psi wet. Probably washed my cylinders down when the map wire was cutting out and cooked the rings. So I started building this 2jzgte block I had laying around. Decked .004, honed and hot tanked. Painted her golden... because that's how shes going to run. Stock oil pump ports Touched up the ports, smoothed out the casting lines to remove those restrictions. Started gapping rings and cleaning up the pistons. The crank and bearings were mint but I ordered ACL bearings, frost plugs, o-rings just cause.

It's ridiculous, because the vast majority of people used photobucket. There will be a great deal of really useful information compromised because of this ridiculous cash grab. I'd pay something reasonable like $10-20/mth for hosting or member account. How do you go from free to $400? I guess if you are like a photographer or someone who needs web hosting, you'd basically have a gun to your head.

For fuck sakes. Haven't posted in a long time because of this photobucket bullshit, and i'm too busy working on my car to deal with it. I cant see any of mine or anyone else's pictures. Are people actually paying the $400 annual fee or is there a different hosting service they are using??

^ Amen to that! Didn't realize it was a gx. No way you'll get me in the right side of anything unless it has a jz engine. Does it get pretty good fuel mileage at least?
  16. Already been a member on this site since almost the beginning, so go fuck yourself, I don't need your approval. I'm being paid to build an mx32 for a friend. She was driving it around for a while with no issues until things leaned out and blew the rings out of #2. Determined later on it was caused by rust from old tank that plugged up fuel filter and carb. Whatever, the 4m was a gutless piece of shit anyways. She wanted to sell the car and I didn't want to see it go to a hack, so I told her I would build it up to modern standards on as much of a budget as I can. I picked up a 7mge and a340 from a friend for like $150, all I had to do was assemble everything. Tried to talk her into a 2jzge, but she didn't have the money at the time. She wanted to keep it auto and I advised her to keep it NA for simplicity and cost effectiveness. 7mge wasn't such a bad choice because there's two in every wrecking yard. Rip on them all you want, I don't give a shit, there is nothing wrong with them as a cruiser/dd power-train once you do the mls hg, bearings, gaskets, seals etc. Hating on 7m's is such a hipster thing to do anyways, like get over it, its just as flawed as every other engine of its time. Anyways, heres the whip when she picked it up. Well there's your problem. Pretty sure I had the head off in 5 minutes flat. Impact to head bolts and grinder to timing chain and a nice upward motion with the prybar and she was off. So basically what we're looking at here is your hack job back yard mechanic special rust repair job. Galvie with some pop rivets on the fire wall. Once I got the patch off and the cowl cover off, the rust problem was much worse than I expected. Rusted right through into the cab. All because some idiot left the drivers side access cover off (above rust hole). There was a hippy erb garden under the cowl, and a full blown mouse nest above the blower in under cowling compartment. My girl showing me how to strip down the engine bay. Every night is a block party. The neighbor has a garage right next to me and is building a foxbody drag car and two houses the other way is a guy with a nice zz30. New timing belt, and seals etc. Did this for about two weeks straight after work, had to get a little bit drunk every night, because thats the only way I can tolerate doing bodywork. Mighty white of ya. New brake master and cleaned up and painted the booster. Drilled out the firewall and mounted up the old wiper motor, good thing i wrote down the hole dimensions before hand. I know the vin plate is a little wavy, but I heard that shit flys over here at jzxp. Also gotta touch up the tower, lost my footing and put my hands all over it. Its not a jzxp build without a 4-doe-backseat ho.

    Tundra Slut-0-Matic (mx32,7mge,a340e)

5mm to be exact. That is one upgrade this car can afford, heh. That is very interesting, I had no idea it was the same casting. Good to know! Perhaps i'll throw a 7m bottom end in the mx73 daily driver when the 5m bottom end gets tired. I hear a little piston slap on warm up, but that's to be expected with a 200k vehicle. No way i'm jz swapping a 2nd car at this point, one is enough. Did they use same pistons and con-rods in the 5m? I'm curious as to how the compression ratio would change. I heard of people using 7m heads on 5m's to increase compression, so I would assume it would be the other way around? T-bone, yes I usually go there once every summer. Drove to Vancouver a dozen times, this summer in my d.d. mx73 and years before im my 1jz mx83. It's a good 24hr burn. Not sure if you remember posting in my other build thread, was talking to whoremouth about meeting up. The old lady's parents moved out to the island so i'm sure there will be a time for a Vancity piss up.

    Tundra Slut-0-Matic (mx32,7mge,a340e)

I explained this earlier.. its not my car.. building it for someone who doesn't have a lot of money to throw around, and they have to pay me on top to build it. Paid 150 for engine, transmission and all supporting hardware. I also live in the middle of nowhere Canada, jz's aren't just lying around over here, like in hongcouver. If it was my car, I would have went that route without a second guess. Anyways, got the bhg special mounted up. Very convenient that the 4m mounts and brackets bolt up to the 7m. I'm also an idiot and left the trans x member on the A43DL when I scrapped the old drive train. The metal bin at work got emptied out literally half an hour before I went to go retrieve it. Tried an ma61 member and its too short. Going to have to modify the mx83 member to work with the A340E. Kept the origional Toyoda oil cap from the 4m .

    Tundra Slut-0-Matic (mx32,7mge,a340e)

I appreciate the concern, and am fully aware of the risk. My main issue is getting the car set up on a working 7m platform. Worst case scenario ill be pulling the engine out and resurfacing the block and buying a new hg, if it comes down to it. It's not a race car, I cant see her driving it anywhere near as hard as I would.

I wasn't a member since the origins of the forum, which is why I said, 'almost.' I had an account before this one (sleeper sideways). But lets be real, shit didn't start happening until like '05 when everyone was trying to swap 7mgte's. I lurked until like '07/08ish when I bought my mx83. I surfaced the head by sliding it over a sheet of sand paper. For the block I took a long sanding block and went over it in an even motion with fine grit. I know machining is the only way, but i'm a gambler I guess. I did the same thing with my 1jz block, and I've been flogging on it for years with no issues. But yes Demesio, jzxp always helps me to pull the plug out of my ass and get some shit done.

If the hg's i install on a daily basis leaked, I wouldnt have been able to put food on the table for the last 6 years . As for wheels, she bought some xxr536's which i think suit the car nicely. Also installed a white jay dee em steering wheel, forgot to mention that. I'm probably going to cut half a coil out of the springs to drop it a few inches, until she goes ahead with the suspension. Not sure what to do about side view mirrors yet. Really think some kind of an old school hot rod mirror would look good. I cant get behind those big old jdm fender mirrors, I think they look silly.
