    Gordo's X8 Ramblings

Since I've polluted this thread with Datsun stuff before, here is my latest addition to my rat truck: Vance & Hines drag bike carbs live !

New Look / Same Poor Taste

Works if you clean all the parts, and giving it enough time to set up. Did that on the rat Datsun truck of mine, with the only downside was the high durometer urethane that I used, that sat up like nylon. It transferred a lot of noise. Had to do this because of the difficulty of finding an OEM quality center bearing, which I finally did.

New Look / Same Poor Taste

Basically just drove it this year. It may have ended up being my last year in the Cressida because I just bought this: The trunk is lying. It's a JZX91 Grande G 2JZ auto: What it came with: Old HKS Hipermax LS+ R33 rep? wheels Hippo Sleek front lip X100 Tourer front seats Mark II rear seat doily (fuck yes) cracked windshield (fuck) two spare hoods, spare trunk lid, spare OEM spoiler ruined driveshaft center support bushing stuffed with windshield urethane (didn't work) Plan is to put the 110 engine and R154 from the Cressida in it while converting the intake manifold, harness and ECU to JZX100, which should be able to run A/C, fuel pump control unit, etc. like stock. I've already got the proper center console, shifter garnish, manual pedal set and clutch master, but I need to cool it with the parts from now until after the holiday season.

    I bought someone else's Cressida

    Ditto.
  6. Congrats budd, Did you get Beau the wonder on it?
  7. Had the car tuned with the new fuel system, didn't eve use the second pump in the surge tank. Only made it to 24 psi because the intercooler is too small and the IAT's just rise with the rpms. I'm not sure if i want to fix that and make more power or just leave it as is. This thing is ridiculous, I dont even know what to do with it anymore. Turned out pretty well, next step is to finish the A/C and maybe drive it sometimes.

I did that too. Yours is better.

Yep, that's why I'm not too upset about spending 2 hours getting those stupid exhaust manifold shields off, or the dumb starter location, etc. The car is really quiet, the 12 CD changer and sound system works perfect and the motor is super smooth. It has just enough power to be interesting. I actually might keep the auto instead of manual swapping it, since it is a daily. Probably will give it a slight drop with some MKIV supra used struts and springs, and then of course some middle of the road enkeis or something.

UZs get a bunch of crap, and they aren't JZ fast, but they consistently hold up better than any other gas powered engine I have ever seen. Yours looks perfect inside! Nice find!

Thanks Zach, yeah it is. That was my thinking. I would build a new bumper support to mount the thing. Bumper came in yesterday, but I haven't checked to see how bad the mounting is going to be with the stock bumper yet. I'm terrified of the bad drivers up here, there's a lot of them. I'm probably going to only drive this thing in very light traffic and/or on the weekends anyway. I might not even park it at the store or whatever. I might just drive it around without stopping and getting out, who knows. I also bought this thing for $900. It has 330k on the 1UZ in it, but the interior and exterior are almost perfect, so I can't complain. It even came with the user manual, Lexus first aid kit in the trunk, and the 12 CD changer still works. I'm going to make it my daily driver. I'll be dumping a little time and money into this thing for a little while. The cress will be on the back burner for a few weeks probably, but then I'll get back to it. The 1UZ is kind of a pain in the ass, but I still like it. I've already torn the motor apart to refresh the goopy top end. The motor is super healthy for the mileage it has, take a look at the spotless cams. They look brand new.

Nice score on the bumper! $300 is cheeeeap. Just build a rear "bash bar" that fits the contours to support the bumper. That's the main reason a lot of us build custom bash bars. To support the bumper, not necessarily to bash into things lol. Calling them bash bars just sounds more edgy. On the topic of bashing and drifting, FWIW, in the 40k miles I have driven my swapped Cressida, more damage to my car has happened while daily driving than drifting. I think a lady in a Kia Optima pulling out in front of you last second is almost just as prevalent as having a concrete barrier at a drift event claim your ride. Either way I understand your concern and commend your decision to keep your car in good condition. Excited to see what you do.

    Curse of the Cressida

ive been dailying this thing to work this past week. its both good and bad to drive and i get real dumb with it. decent gas mileage too i find it hilarious, better than the d21 for sure..did cost me 100 bucks to fill up with basic ass pump 91 (55L)

    JZX100 Chaser

Yea, should be an interesting task to find a place, but I should be making enough to get a studio or small 1 bedroom for my gf and I. Will get a lot easier once she gets a job and can help supplement. Everyone I talked to in the position I am going into either lived in Palo Alto, Menlo Park or SF itself, so I'm hopeful for its feasibility.

https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=BC I think this is the one. Crowd sourced info, perhaps hard to tell how recently it's been kept up to date though.

    Curse of the Cressida

I'll take a look into that dude, thanks. Didn't think there would be recorded data on ethanol content here. I have no interest in using e85 as I'd like to drive my cars anywhere and don't have patience to hunt down a station so pump gas it will remain. As well, my cars tend to sit..not my long term goal though, I want to run 2 plates and cycle them every few months and get more use out of them.

    Curse of the Cressida

Yea, it is such crap when they are taking sub 91 octane fuel, adding up to 10% ethanol to it, and selling it to you as 91 octane. You then get less mileage out of it in comparison to 0% ethanol - but paid the same price. E85 is different, as you are getting the octane benefits of ethanol, not just the company using that to get it up to the reported octane rating. Plus, if you are putting E85 in there, you (hopefully) have checked and are checking on your fuel components more often (for older cars) or it is designed to be okay with that. Doesn't help that our gas is a stuuupid price up here right now...at one point someone was running a website tracking who was putting ethanol in what in BC. That might be worth checking to see if it is still a thing if you are concerned about this in the future.

I would have... the whole bumper itself is 100 bucks. Shipping is a minimum of 1600 I think? It was astronomical. Most proxy services don't want to deal with it.

Also came across this about a month ago on ebay. The seller originally wanted $500 for it, $650 with shipping. I called and offered $450 shipped, but he denied. Checked again a few days ago, and it dropped all the way down to $150. Bought it for $300 shipped. It doesn't come with the JDM metal bumper support. I know it will fit with some hacking. On the SerialNine website, they say that their JZX rear bumpers will fit with "heavily modifying the rear USDM bumper". Time to get out the cutting wheel again.

    Curse of the Cressida

as im sure it is down south, ethanol is being cut into gasoline to extend their product. issue is with ethanol is the sitting and the fuel deteriorating. as well, ethanol absorbs water which is not good for old metal tanks. one way around this is to park it with a full tank of gas and put fuel stabilizer in it. Ethanol is sitting do not mix well, not even sure what climate would be ok with this. e85 is something else. Still perplexes me that the gas companies add ethanol into regular gasoline to dilute it, and then you pay a premium for e85, which isnt even 85% most of the time at the pump. definite positives to be gained from e85 but it requires cycling it all out if you have the car sit for a few months so it doesnt gel, and the e10 or thereabouts in 87 octane isnt good for anyone. 91 octane is a random batch if it includes it or not, some pumps say no ethanol in 91 and some do.
