New Look / Same Poor Taste

If it's just a score or two, polish up the yoke, and insert it. If there is a lot of slop, the tail housing is toast, but if it has normal side to side movement, run it.

    Curse of the Cressida

just shy of "better" now. just gotta put insurance on it, drive it, align it, drift and daily it. AEM meth container, just put in so i can clean up a bunch of my million of boxes and parts i have for all these cars. completed the passenger seat rail which is now a whole unit and not tabs, with working slider for driver and passenger, both painted in flat black cleaned the entire interior, no more musty smell. i pressure washed the carpet and then cleaned it again when i installed it. even cleaned all the metal/sound deadening before putting the the carpet in. gutted the rear seat to allow no damage to the newer, bigger power cable. all metal was cut back and sanded, then i added cut vacuum lines and fuel lines to cover all the metal to not damage the wire as well as making it lighter. cleaned up the weak power steering line from the reservoir to pump and added nice new clamps, checked fluids finished putting the interior back together and not totally finished, im happy with where it is right now put it outside and put the supra in the garage to make a 24/7 fuel pump relay and some other bits and pieces so i can finish the tires i got, this or next year. dailies bonus, got all 4 re71r's mounted and balanced on the bronze cr kais so those will go on when the car is aligned and maybe do a drift/grip thing so i can get used to it again. and my blitz techno speed that i curbed like 3? yrs ago and got it re balanced finally for the time being. also got the crv aligned after the recent suspension work

I'm surprised none of these trans have a roller bearing for that application from the factory... There could have been some imperfections on the yoke that I hadn't noticed. I also do jizz a good amount of gear lube on the yoke before installing it usually. Could a poorly balanced driveshaft have influenced this failure? Though it might just be a combination of age and abuse -- there has to be over 200k miles on this box at this point. Aside from whatever I do for a trans, I'll get a new yoke and u-joints and have the balance checked at a different shop

not gonna lie, i follow #mx83 on ig and saw this weeks ago. didn't know it was yours. As soon as I saw yours I saw someone else post their buddy's scroll work on a harley and started following him too. This absolutely fucking rules and I wanna do something like that BAD. Did you find an easy way to R&R the rear handles? They were SUCH a bitch last time around.

The Mazda guys are lucky, someone makes a roller bearing to fix that issue. Looked at one of my W58 builds to see if it would be possible, but there isn't enough material in the housing to machine it large enough for an off the shelf bearing. It could be saved by machining another sleeve bearing from bronze to replace the original pressed in one, but not cost effective if you don't have a buddy that owns a machine shop. To avoid having that happen again, that area has to be super clean, the yoke bearing surface 100% free of nicks or rust pits, and a lot of grease on installation.

How about the shifter surround and cup holder? How's the HVAC blower motor? Do you still have the stock fan shroud? What do you need for the IS300 fan shroud kit? Lets talk about the XM rear arms and Stance coils. Any other cool bits and bobs I need to get?

haha ya same, because typically they aren't included in the rebuild kits.

Yeah pretty sure I killed my slip yoke bushing. You can see here the chunks smeared out the end of it: Probably the only bearing in the trans that I never replaced lol

Found my pictures, probably <500 miles in as well. But that was thousands of miles ago now. I just assumed it was because literally every bushing is either hard poly or solid at his point for me, and the fact that I remove every one of those dampener bricks on the subframe and trans xmember haha. I'm a pussy and rarely even go fast enough to get to the vibration (it's moved further back now because I swapped from 4.3 to 3.9 too) and when I am going that fast it's not for very long hah. Edit: My buddy thinks it could possible be a warn out housing busing: https://ampdistributing.com/collections/toyota-r151-r154/products/1986-93-toyota-supra-r154-transmission-extension-tail-housing-bushing

yep, i had the same shit over 90mph... also had a one piece shaft, new from driftlotion. had it re-checked by a local company and it all checked out fine.. never figured out the problem.

whatever driveshaft is in mine had this vibration as well, talked to another jzx83 guy as well and he too had this issue. mine steadies and unsteadies. i topped the car out where i felt i was going too fast to brake good and the vibration went away. i think mine is a oem mix up of parts. the other guy i talked to, same r box and jz, he has full sub and diff bushings and arms and changed driveshafts and its still there. i havent tested mine since removing all the slop but i think mine is in the driveshaft too. tried multiple wheels and tires as well. 😕

My shaft was also originally an XM that I had lengthened 2 inches by a local place. It felt fine until yesterday when I went fast. Vibration came out of nowhere and didn't go away when I slowed down so this leaves me to believe it's the trans. Shits bad enough that it vibrates the steering wheel.

I have the same dualshock: My brand new driveshaft that came horribly balanced from XM (even after having it balanced at an actual driveshaft shop) has horrible vibration past 120mph. And my driveshaft also has similar wear lines that I can feel with fingernail =(

Close to 100%. Mainly ES300/Camry or late 90s Accord or Acura TL. Or if they notice the right hand drive they jump right to sKyLiNe. While driving, either the car is so unassuming or people are so tuned out now that they barely notice I'm on the wrong side of the car. This day probably came yesterday. Took the car somewhere north of 180kph (digidash max) and the driveline turned into a Dualshock 2. Here's some sub-500 mile MT90 and some slip yoke bushing material deposited onto my driveshaft:

i love dark green x90 mark iis mostly because of the camry vibe they have going for them. what % of people do you encounter in this that mistake it for something else?

you could go the other way and just let the shit youve collected loom over you for years while you slowly collapse under the weight of your unrealized goals. i feel you, get your head straight or that type of thing will eventually infect any hobby you take up my dude. dont let people put you in a box and define what your mental health should look like. no shame in looking for help. you know i need red interior, if that clamshell is good i will probably hermetically seal it and put it on display in a museum.

Thanks guys! @Urrik most people associate with El Chapo or some Mexican drug cartel, but I’ll accept your creativity lol.

    Sleeper MX83 build

@battleaxe This 100%. Yes, seeing that first shot of base will totally reignite the motivation, I promise. If you’re getting bad results, just focus on spraying sealer on one part that is quick and easy to fix until your settings are solid. For instance, a door. Don’t practice on the most complex canvas with all those curves. Also when you said 30psi, I immediately thought your pressure is too high. Especially with something as diluted as sealer. Try 20psi. You’ll get it.
