Would probably happen the same way here except with immigration officials instead of traffic cops.

It might be different for your county. But in Sacramento, if you fight the ticket you can't make any form of a deal on the ticket with the DA. Basicly if you show up, talk to the DA to cut the fine down if you plead guilty. However if you go to fight the ticket and lose. The judge won't cut you any type of deal. 99% of the time the judge rules in the cops favor. Only way you win is if the cop doesnt show up or you hire an attorney to represent you.
