Alright so I've got a issue that keeps fucking me over at events. I keep loosing my serpentine belt mid drift, first time was in Calgary in June 2010 had no issues day 1 or during practice of day 2, but during qualifying the belt flew off after I iniciated in 3rd gear onto a bank. The second time was July in Edmonton, 3 hours or morning practice no issues, qualifying no issues, but top 16 tandem I threw the car side ways into the first corner against a s13, and halfway thru the first corner I lost the belt.

So after these 2 times I figured the tensioner was fucked, so I ordered a new one, put it on with a new belt and went out to practice this last thursday night, having an awesome night there, after about 2 hours, halfway thru the course at full throttle in 2rd, i lost my power steering/power/everying and realized the belt flew off again! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So after looking in the pits realized the tensioner was fine, but the bolt was stripped, I have to replace that anyways, so I grabbed the tensioner off my x90 Cresta parts car and put it on last night.

We also checked the alighnment on the pulleys. I have the drift motion waterpump with pulley, DM power steering pump pulley, and no AC with a proper sized belt on it. The alighnment seems good on all the pulleys, the tensioner seems good the pulleys all spin freely, they don't wobble or anything. I also ran all last year with this same setup did not change anything from 2009 to 2010 in there.

My buddies think that it is a problem with the power steering pump, when I hit full lock the power steering pulley almost seizes a bit, almost stalling out for a split second, they figure that hitting full lock at 6k rpm is probably causing this to happen. The power steering fluid doesn't looks so good either, spels like cow shit, so my one mechanic buddie is sayin that if it smells like that, means the pump is burning out. I'm debating pulling the one off my parts car and putting it on mine and flushing the power steering system to see if this helps.

Any input, anyone has this issue before on a 1JZ-GTE,

I'm trying to get this resolved by next weekend the 17th 18th for DMCC West Round 3,

how is the crank pulley ? i had my crank pulley fly apart at red line.. you can actually see it move a bit if you rev it up. might need to get a underdrive crank pulley. help slow down how fast your spinning the acccesories. would help with the burning pump. aslo is there a cooler inline on the return of the powersteering ? would be a very good idea to put one.

100% caused by power steering pump misalignment. . you're not running AC pump anymore correct ? Check the mounting bolt that goes through the block and make sure its not BENT or BROKEN.. keving had this problem before and could NOT keep belts on.. ANY tension whatsoever above the normal tension to keep the belt on would result in a thrown belt. . Culprit was a broken mounting bolt. . Another thing is the pump can MOVE quite a bit. . Solution is to add an additional bracket . . I used the existing long stud that used to hold the AC pump. . added some spacers to get the mounting out as far as possible and a simple bent 3/16" flatbar. .and it works like a hot damn. . Pump doesn't move anymore and i've NEVER thrown a belt and i consistently rev over 8k. Kevin aslo has had no belt problems after fitting a similar bracket and replacing the bolt. we're both still running the original support bracket. .

The pic is slightly blurry.. but the rusty flatbat is what you're looking at. . it took literally 20min to make.. so.. Try it out!!

Well we checked the bracket, looks good, so we made an extra brace on the bottom of it that goes down to where the AC would of been and hope this works, we'll find out on the weekend at DMCC West Round 3,

Also we flushed the power steering fluid, so we'll see how that goes tooo

i run a bracket all the way down to the bottom of the block. belt's been on for the past 5 yrs and has never come off. it's only seen occasional drifting though.

I also had the same problem for the same reason and I wrecked!

You can just use the front "plate" part of a compressor.

was your powersteering fluid milky grey?

inside the car when you get close to full lock, does it feel like the steering locks? Ive had that happen on my last testing day after 2-3 hot laps and the fluid is now milky grey.

do you have a powersteeering cooler?
what size front tires you running?

was your powersteering fluid milky grey?: no it was not

inside the car when you get close to full lock, does it feel like the steering locks? Ive had that happen on my last testing day after 2-3 hot laps and the fluid is now milky grey. :No it just locks when it hits the end,

do you have a powersteeering cooler?: Nope probably gonna put one in soon

what size front tires you running? 225/40/18

After flushing the fluid, the pump does not stall at full lock at all, just keeps spinning like normal.

if the bracket doesnt stop it from flying off... check the pulleys. some of those cheap chinese pullys are out of true from the factory.

and an underdrive crank pulley is a terrible idea. no damper, shortens life of the motor etc....so get an ATi fluidamper crank pulley in the future.
