I was reading about ken gushi's mx83 today in super street and he mentioned this site so i figured i would check it out as im going to pick up my x7 tomoorow. first tings first for the car will be fixing up the front end as it was in a minor front end collision and then its on to suspension.
i was wondering about the motor tho. i know it has the 5m-ge and was wondering if those suffer from the same head gasget woe's as the 7m's? i will be swapping it out later for a 1jz or 7m-gte but for right now its going to be my daily and i was just wondering if i should worry about the head gasget? its got 185,000 on it and im not sure if its been done and i know that its a lot of miles and i should expect that it doesn't have long before it might go. also i was wondering if there are any other common problems i should watch for?
but yea anyways a little about me...
im 23 yo. and i live in the small town of osceola WI usa. i've lived in the area all of my life and like it here. ive owned and built many cars from rx7's to dsm's and a few honda's and a couple celica's along with a couple 2wd trucks. this will be my first "jzx" and i hope it works out for me. a couple of my friends have is300's (altezza's) and i really like that they are 4 door but still a good sports car while maintaining a good level of comfort. i cant wait to go my cressida up and get to work!
hope to see everyone in the forums
new to this forum, long time car guy

Funny, I was just in Osceola, WI a few days ago..
To answer your question about the 5M headgasKet; no.
A Cressida isn't a typical Celica, Honda, RX7. They're not ez to modify, require lots of knowledge, patience and you gotta have Big Nuts to make a Cressida worth while. So, I'll be looking forward to seeing your car forsale in the forsale section, aye?

you won't have a "JZX" until you 1st get an X, then drop bread on a JZ. You'll need 5 grandish to make it happen. You should probably replace EVERY hose and seal on a car that old if you're counting on it as a daily for awhile otherwise you'll be walking a bunch. That's not cheap either. Cam housing gaskets are about $100 for the pair. Have fun. If you're trying to suck Ken Gushi's dick, I'd suggest being a girl with big boobs instead of buying a Cressida. It'd be less of a headache.

Come back when you have a car. Until then, GTFO

-1987 AE86 Corolla with 20 valve swap SOLD
-1985 MX73 Cressida 1JZ big single swap breaking diffs on the regular
Toysport and 935 Motorsports suck. Don't buy from either.
