Who out there has a netbook?

I've been thinking about getting one, mainly a Linux powered model. Who hates theirs, loves it, etc?

I'm guessing the price range will be in the $200-300 range, maybe even less. Woot.com and sellout.woot.com seem to have models pop up every so often, but I haven't kept up with which brands are decent.

The Asus eeepc seems popular, but the brand isn't too important to me.

IVe had my acer intel atom powered 9inch one for over a yr when they first came out in walmart. The xp crashed and I installed w7 on it. I mainly use it for truck gps programs and occasionally go on the net while I'm driving to check the status of my fav porn site. Its pretty nifty and not big and bulky as my apple up on my stand while driving. My acer has a 120g hd so I've seen the asus ones with 8gb..

If having something that small is truly important, I'd rather just get skrilla together for a solid 13" notebook and make it my main pc.

I am just thinking about something light and easy to carry into the garage and my backpack for traveling.

Most of my important stuff is on a USB thumb drive which is backed up. I only need internet and other simple programs, so a netbook would seem a good choice. It's not really for youtube or photoshop or anything like that.

I use my Gateway for everything! I love it!

It isn't as small as a normal netbook. Mine is a 12" model LT3103u.

The Gateway site, says they don't make it anymore though =[

on the topic of linux, just dual-boot. most all netbooks these days come with windows only. which is fine, you're getting a $100 OS for free. also since most all linux distros that matter are completely free and are very cohabitant with windows, you might as well keep both. on my gateway lt1004u i have a ubuntu 9.04 and win xp.

why i keep windows is, for the most part - because its faster. linux drivers are still not fully optimized for the Intel Atom N270 chipset, so flash/video frame rates are lower. this matters a lot on the N270 cpu, where fullscreen hulu is not happening.

with the new N450 though this problem probably no longer exists, its a way faster cpu.

anyway, yeah get a netbook already.

netbooks are fucking awesome. I am going to be getting one soon because I don't need another built computer or anything near it, just something to cruise forums and read shit on the road without having a full on laptop to deal with.

you'd be surprised at how capable these things are. Mine isn't a "net" book that verizon and others offer with their built in bull shit modems and make you pay 60 bux a month for 5 gigs of usage, but i do use a tethering app and have unlimited fast internet nationwide off my Droid.
