240s are boring, quad cam v8s are awesome and i had been reading shit on 5-speed VH swaps so i bought a z33 6-speed trans and then this.
<img src="http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w212/jtmroczk/Q45/Picture029.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
cut the springs, cut the exhaust, threw what after market suspension links i had on it and a ratty sparco seat and steering wheel then started having a blast with it.

the clutch petal and master went in one night last year.

starter works
<img src="http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/JustinMroczkowski/DSC_0099.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
chopping steering stops off the hubs along with angle spacers gives this, ackerman blows.
<img src="http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/JustinMroczkowski/steeringstopmod.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
stock tranny bracket and exhaust mount, the shifter is 5 or 6 inched back from where it should be

transmission stuff:
bell housing stuff:
Two Bell housings are better than one, the Z33 bell housing in the back has already been cut and milled flat along with the Q45 section under the 1/4" square plate
On the transmission, under the square plate that is removed from the middle of the transmission is a hidden bell housing bolt.
Don't remove the center section from the rear section.
the other one is the little, iirc, 8mm nut inside of the bell housing below the main shaft, it holds a splash guard that is also attached to the center section.
leave the center section together and don't shake it around too much while it is apart there a couple big ass ball bearings in there that can fall out, haha i learned all that on the spare pre-recall transmission i got the extra bell housing from.

Find a good machine shop,
mazworx couldn't even fit this on their mill, i took it to a little place called Rinker Machinery a little father & son shop in the getto packed with equipment and clean. the big ass electrical service on the wall outside was a hint i was in the right place.
overall height remained the same on the bell housing, i used 4 1/4" of Q45 bell housing, 1/4" plate, and took 4 1/4" off the Z bell housing.
when you bolt everything to its respective position, along with proper machining, it all self aligns.

Where to cut,
I cut high enough to clear the entire flywheel assembly, that should work well for anything.

Misc:
the input shaft was too long
we used a paint pen to verifty how deep the shaft was going into the crank and then cut half an inch off and used a grinding wheel to smoth the edges of the cut
we used electrical tape wrapped around the splines to verify engagement of the splines on the clutch
also, the pilot bushing had to be cut down by about an 1/8th of an inch

transmission work: PBR? "check" chop saw? "check"
Probably obvious but Tack it all in position and bolted to a spare engine.

In hind sight i should have cut the 1/4" plate much closer to the actual shape of the bell housings, this was four hourse of work i don't ever want to repeat

Finished product: Fuck adapter plates and flywheel spacers

(all Mike's welding, i can't weld shit)
Slave cylinder:
I ended up with just the left side quarter of what you see between the cuts here(this is all of what i cut off the 350z bell housing)

I ground down the back of the bracket with a slight curve and ground the bell housing section at a small angle and also cut a hole through behine a laerge portion of the bracket so that i could be welded from both sides. I still plan for the space left of the bracket to be filled but it may not be necessary...

(sorry my oem flash can't see as far as the 10mm lens)
Flywheel stuff:
this thing really sucked, and took half a dozen tries to work out
its a q45 starter ring on an N/A Z32 5mt flywheel
I ended up baking the ring gear at 500 degrees for 3 hours and bringing the flywheel up a little over 100 to help slow heat transfer, two pliers, a hammer and a little patience are still needed. In hind sight i will strongly suggest buying enough 2-3mm keyway stock in order to evenly space the ring gear out from flush while mounting it to the flywheel, otherwise the q45 starter gear to ring gear engagement is at an absolute minimum(in my case), MINIMUM. however it successfully started last night

Drive shaft yoke:
Went to Dependable Drive shaft and they gave me something to test fit, slightly disappointed...
internet reserch gives this:
"The 350Z, 05+ V6 Frontier, and the 05+ Nissan Xterra all use the FS6R31A manual transmission gearbox, and the gear widths are identical per the official Nissan FSMs.? -www.sirwarrior.com july 2008 post
“I measured a Z33 driveshaft and got 35mm inside diameter (I measured the smooth part, which should be equal to the "valley's" between the teeth). I counted 30 teeth." -http://www.freshalloy.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-168243.html

Q45 manual transmission swap wiring:
this is full time 'park' wiring and bypass for the starter

VH opened up with nice exhaust is about the best sounding V8 I've ever heard. In my repeated experience that sound is quickly followed with loud knocking.
Add an oil cooler, ducting and good fans. And watch your oil presure/temps.

Thanks, I'll start looking into that more. I've been worried about temperatures and staging/parking at drift events with an open hood because some of the guys over on nico would have people believe the transmissions are made of glass glued together with wax, though mine seemed to handle the abuse very well.
The yoke i picked up from dependable drive shaft matched, hopefully i'll have it all back by the end of the day.
