Does anybody know if the rpm signals are different on the N/A (single coilpack system) to the GTE lump? I have the rpm signals wires connected but rev counter is still not getting a a working signal. RPM's working fine on the emange just not at the gauges.
I read somewhere about a signla amplifier will this be the case?
Any assistance appreciated

Well that was helpful....
The standard dash tacho that previously ran on a 1JZ-GE wont accept the 1JZ-GTE signal, well it doesnt work if wired up, your knowledge in such matters would be much appreciated in such a case. And having rewired the entire car I'm fairly knowledgable on such stuff but this one has me stumped.
I await your words of great wisdom.....

The 1JZGE uses a distributor. the 1JZGTE uses coil on plug, the ignition signals will be very very different. You should be able to use an MSD tach adapter to make the signal usable by your dash.

Okay I got it and it's really simple! Like simpler than the 5m tach!
7mge tach will work fine withh 1j the difference is just frequency. You have to hook up the black wire from igniter which is IG- on the diag box and same on the tach.
So go take your tach out and on the screw hole where ig- signal enters the tach look for the first resistor once it hits the board. Should be a 30Kohm. Cut it off leaving a little of the leads. Then solder a small piece of wire in where the resistor was. I've verified against an safc2 and also dynojet and it's dead on all the way to 8krpm.
Put tach together and go rock out!

Oh and jacob, this works withh 2j duh same signal.

ok, to be concrete, that will work 7m -1jz-gte? and that is the circuit on the back of the factory tach?
