Because America can't tell the difference.
We will never see a X car under the Toyota brand ever again.
Why Toyota doesn't care about RWD

well think about American auto history, many US auto makers made the switch from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive (and still are predominantly front wheel drive)... not too surprised to think they assume the same for other automakers. i've seen FWD V6 cressidas pop up on craigslist on a few occasion lol
probably wouldn't know the difference between a Mark X, a Crown, or an Avalon even if their life depended on it.
now if they made an X chassis platform into NASCAR... now we're talking sales.

I think that those individuals that cannot tell the difference are in the same category of those who cannot stop a "runaway Prius". Just proves that you don't have to be very smart to have a lot of money, or enough to pay for the lease of your new FWD BMW.
Now some FWD cars that have longitudinally mounted engines (Acura Legend, old Cadillac Eldorado, or Oldmobile Toronado to name a few) can fool some people into thinking that the car is RWD. That is not the case here though.
Thanks for sharing Brian.

I've actually seen that before. Saw somebody at the mountain mounting chains on the front tires of an older BMW 7-series.
More awesome than a robot caveman punching God in the dick.

at big chain garages in canada if you only buy a pair of snowtires for a car, they will ONLY put them on the front, no matter what! society is generally 80% oblivious to RWD. do you ever find yourself having to explain RWD to morons? like halfway through describing that it means the rear wheels drive the car.. you just kinda facepalm and say fuck it, this tool isn't even listening.
the president of the company i work for bought a new auto 135 convertible. i'm pretty sure he's one of the 80%.
toyota will not do anything like X because they are not what they used to be. toyota is not the company we all learned to trust and appreciate. the lexus IS is the closest thing, and it will never be what toyota had going through the 90's up to the JZX110.
the neatest thing to happen lately is the FT86. this is a true anomaly. i bet internal toyota politics are fighting over this. too bad it's just a small sports car, but fuck, if people buy it, we might get some life from wherever that crawled from.
old toyota executives: .. oh fuck! people like the FT! ok toyota robot tell us the secret formula that made people happy enough to buy that car..
secret kanto powered 80's toyota robot brought out of storage: .. bring back the fucking hardcore shit that made people want to buy into the toyota experience, stop feeding them only shopping cart beige shit.
toyota exec: .. oh so like all the cool cars we sold in the 90's are next? good idea.. lets re-invent the solara..
80's robot: FUCK NO! are you fucking retarded. they wanted the FT because it's RWD YOU DUMBFUCK!!!
toyota exec: oh shit you mean like those japanese built toyotas? the ones people STILL DRIVE today?
80's robot: .. how the FUCK did you get a job here, GOD YOU'RE STUPID. YES YOU MORON!! people still drive AE86's, Cressidas, and some Supras because they weren't utter shit.
toyota exec: so we bring back the supra celica?
80's robot: YOU ALREADY DID THAT when you made the LF-A and made it fucking WAY THE FUCK TOO EXPENSIVE you dumbass. those people who like it are poor bastards, they don't have $12K a month for a lease. FUCK!! they have kids and a family, little money and can't stand your bullshit family cars because they KNOW BETTER, but you've let the down! they love your company and want to buy cars, they're just waiting for you to stop SUCKING BALLS!!
toyota exec: but they can buy our more peformance oriented luxury lineup, like the IS350 or ISF.
80's robot: i said they're poor, and they don't want overweight over optioned overpriced cars. they want it lean, simple and cheap, but doing the same thing on the street with the ability to actually shift gears manually.
toyota exec: then they should buy a Scion! they're sporty, and get all the TRD parts to go fast if they want!
80's robot: *SWITCHING TO GUNS, ACQUIRING TARGETS*
fuck.

Ive got a good one...I'm looking after a formula ford this year in the NSW state championship. The driver has a degree in mechanical engineering and works as a project manager for a large cerial brand here.
Anyways, we took the fford to a track so he could be checked out for his racing license. The licence tester takes him out (my guy driving) in his SW20 MR2. Upon returning to the pits, the tester pops the engine cover to let the thing cool down. I call my driver over and show him a crack i spotted in the dump pipe.
Anyway we walk off chatting about some bs and he says "that car is FWD isnt it"?
I almost fell over.
