Hi guys,

Im trying to get my tranny rebuilt but local tranny shop is having issues trying to locate parts and local toyota dealer isnt being helpful and insists they need a vin number.

could someone please send me a vin number with make and model of the vehicle. The catch is it must have had an R154 from factory.

if you could please PM me it would be greatly appreciated.

i can check the supra at home when i get a chance. it don't matter if it's a US or Canada car? my supra is a factory turbo 5 spd w/ R154

i'm assuming it don't matter that it's a 7M R154 (7M bellhousing) and shifter housing is for a MA70?

You could try this guy: http://supraclub.ca/forums/index.php

Jeff gets all my parts for me, he's like Rainman when it comes to part numbers. He has a MA70 Supra turbo and has ordered R154 parts too.

Yeah, Jeff is the man when it comes to Toyota parts in Canada. I often have the same problems with the clowns at the local dealerships.

me"I need to order something the part number is XXXXXXX"
stooge"what's the vin number of the car?"
me" It's not available in a car here, the part number is XXXXXXX, just look in the computer"
stooge"I need a vin number"
me"no you don't, I just gave you a valid locally available part number, order the fucking part"
stooge"what car is it out of"
me"a soarer... from Japan"
stooge"Toyota never made a Soarer"

I have had this exact same conversation before. It just boils my brain.

"I need an R series bellhousing for a JZ series motor."

"What is a R series and what motor is JZ?"

what is Jeff's username on there? anyone have a phone number for this guy?

well here is where im at. Hopefully someone can help me out.

Ill start from the start so everyone knows whats going.

During the season i had issues going into third gear when shifting hard. As the season went on it got worse.

In the off season i drop off my tranny to local transmission shop to get it looked at and see what else needs to be fixed while its apart.

Turns out my 3rd gear and 3rd gear syncro and the 3rd gear hub/housing is toast. There is also minor things that need to be replaced but that is not the issue.

Anyways the shop called to toyota and they insisted they needed a vin. Thanks to Ray for his vin the shop called today and still didnt get anywhere. I looked up my JZX90 transmission part numbers as well as a diagram from 1988 supra with R154. Turns out 3rd gear stuff have different part numbers. The gear is roughly $300 as well as the syncro is close to the same price. They are special order which means if it doesnt work im stuck with a $300 part.

Anyone know if USDM and JDM R154 tranny's had different gearing? The transmission guy is afraid that tehy might have different gearing inside the tranny. He doesnt feel comfortable ordering the peice for me as if it doesnt work im stuck with the bill and he doesnt want to put me in that situation.

Would i just be better sourcing out another R154 tranny to use the internals?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yea the one in town also doesn't come with it's turbo's

it had a t78 on it before and made like 400hp pretty much un tuned and the guy that owned it before bagged the shit out of it.

so the motor would be good for a rebuild????

Mats if you need any parts from out west here, I have a friend going from here to Montreal and Back on march 26th

QUOTE (Chromedragon;85478)
I will be driving out to Montreal on March 26 and have space to haul a bunch of parts if anyone needs something shipped for cheap. I will actually be leaving from Edmonton on the 25th and then from Calgary on the 26th, so I can take parts from either place. The total space available is around 12'x8'x6', so lots of room for kits, wheels, etc.

If you want something shipped it will be up to you to get the parts to me before I leave and to have the person receiving the parts come pick them up on the other end either on the Sunday the 28th or Monday the 29th.

I will have limited space on the return trip as well if you want parts brought back too. If you're wanting to get in on this don't wait, I don't want people calling me the day I'm leaving trying to get stuff sent.

Fire me a PM or text at seven-8-zero two-6-five 2-three-6-five.

Matt

PM me if you want and I can get you in touch with him,

I'm pertty sure he's on his way out there to pick up the old BFG GTO's, thats the rumors thats flying around as of now

Hey man i can really help you with ur tranny problem. I have learned a lot about r154 lately because I just go done rebuilding mine here in japan. I am working second one right now. U need to be careful when ordering parts for r154 because their are 4 different types of tranny out their. And their all not them same. Was ur car factory manual or swap? If it was a swap it makes it more difficult to get the right parts for it if u can't tell what tranny u have. If u post pics of ur tranny i can tell u which one you have help u source some parts for it over here.Their really not hard to rebuild urself if have a proper manual.
All I really wanted was the back visor
