I want working hood lift supports again....
No one seems to make them for the X83 chassis after market here in the USA ...
Has anyone else on here successfully used either Camry, Avalon, or Supra MK3 struts for their hoods?
Yeah, and I'm not paying 122 bux a side for them from Toyota so... has anyone cross referenced them from another Toyota yet? If not, I'll figure it out and deal with it!

^yeah, someone in maple leaf country does that shit and in OZ but nothing more practical than jus. Fitting up some mk3 shit. I've been meaning to do that shit for a while now... I've got a stick for now.
ChriSOL----starting shit here is like pissing into an ocean of piss. we live in it 24/7 and one more guy filling up the pool isn't going to matter much.

Matt (ryojikaji) had 93 camry ones on his x8, but the down side is the camry ones are shorter. I currently took mine off on my x8 since mine were blown, but I might go with this route if I can't find any nice mk3 or cressida ones.

i use a stick.... but if i ever wanted new ones i'd probably try and source new ones... hell if they work for 10 yrs, i'd be pretty happy paying full pop for them.

I got a brand new pair for my X7 off ebay for $25. They look just like the pics of the camry ones. A bolt in ball/socket on the hood end and a hinge with bolt on bracket on the body end.

i had mone rebuilt by Frank @ strutwise in canada... he rebuilds them to better than stock.. according to him he uses better seals and puts a higher PSI gas in them.

hmmm... How much did that cost? Phone number or website? I don't mind shipping my struts off to Canada if this guy does a kick ass job and if it's for a decent price (less than NEW from Toyota obviously) LOL!
Yeah the 93 Camry is 1" inch shorter fully extended, and the MK3 Supra is 1/2" shorter than the X83 ... and yes from the dealer the left side cost just slightly more than the right side for whatever reason ...
I'm thinking I'm going to try the MK3 Supra supports and maybe shim the bracket or make a custom bracket or something to take up the 1/2 inch (the X83 fully extended is 16.5 inches) ...
But I'll wait to hear back more about this Strutwise before I do anything... yeah I've been using sticks or vise grips to prop my hood open since 2005, and I'm determined now to find a solution of somekind so that I don't have to look like Joe Dirt every time I wanna show off or look under my hood!

I know im bumping an old thread but i have a solution for these.
its a trick that my dad has been doing for years and so i copied him. He originally did these on his camry.
1. Hold hood up all the way and drill a small hole.
2. Make some sort of pin to fit in hole to hold hood up.
for example:

I used a metal clothes hanger. its not very pretty but it works and is very strong. I did this on only one strut.
I also did it on crzeebobby's (Robert) cressida. He loves it. His hood shocks still worked but if there was a slight wind the hood would slam closed or hit you.
Hope this serves you guys well. Just trying to contribute.
It is alot easier than carrying a stick around with you and potentially having it slip and have the hood hit you.
