Finally getting around to making one of these. Picked up my x7 from Will Harris for cheap cheap. It had been parked and tarped for years, and it shows. The interior was all there, but time, moisture, and rats had other plans for it all. Decided, eh, scrap all this mildewy shit and track it for the most part.

I started out with a mk 3 turbo that I picked up for cheap, and I was going to pull the 7m from that and put it in the cress. but got an offer and traded it with 600 cash on top for a minty rebuilt 323 GTX (fuckin miss that car, awd and full boost in no time) planned to sell the GTX the whole time for profit, and it worked. Sold it for about 4, picked up a 1j, r154, and started piecing together all the shit.

When I got it, thus The Swamp Monster

I still haven't washed it, not gonna worry about that shit till it runs.

Got this,

Got some goodies from DM,

Got rid of AC and PS (probably going to regret the PS part.... and maybe the AC..)
and front sump'd it.

The engine has been in and out like 20 times. Didn't want to hammer the tunnel so I cut what needed to come out, out. I am going to sliproll a new one drag style with mounts for turbo timer, boost controller, and other fun shit.

Before I realized there was another forward position for the mounts, now it sits where it should.

me workin, yah long ass hippy hair (rip)

Finally got around to painting the bay. Simple gray should look slick. Its gonna look dirty as shit if I dont keep up on cleaning it though.

Got all the wiring pulled out also, I can't wait to clean the harness up. Sooo many fucking wires its unbelievable. Took all the door panels and scrubbed the hell out of em with a mild water/simplegreen/tiny bit of bleach mix. Its a night and day difference before and after. They were nap, and now they look like almost new leather. stoooked.

Picking up an engine hoist, floor jacks, stands, and shit so I can finish the car at my house. After i get it running, I am thinking of running the ground control front coils and get some struts and springs in the back. I got a cheap ass no name reclineable bucket from Ian that I am reupholstering atm. Need to get the rack made for that, make a harness bar, and put in a drivers harness. Blah blah blah. Custom engine mounts so I am going to have to get a DSS single piece. Also going to make a sick front strut tri-bar.
who the fuck knows when i will be driving it. if i can learn to budget my money better should be running in not long, probably wont feel safe driving it for awhile though. The brakes are rusted to shit so I might as well just upgrade em before driving at all.

X7s are semi-driveable without PS, but it's sketchy and pretty dangerous unless you're fuckin jacked. I had no PS on my corolla, but it weighed about 2000 lbs so it wasn't a problem.

Yeah man I wasn't thinking when I sold my ps pump. Idk, I DD'd my mk3 with no PS and it was pretty easy over 5 mph, i'm pretty sure my cressida is lighter now than that fuckin hippo was. We'll see. if i can piece together all the shit for it by the time i drive it i'll just put it back on.

You're going to miss the powersteering biggrin.gif. My pump went out last month. I almost called a fucking tug boat to help me get home. 2 tons of tin isnt fun with no ps.

I have some mkII sustech springs I'm not going to need next month. You'd be my current ride height though. Let me know, cheap.

no regrets on no power steering, tis for de wimpies
but do be sure to open the return line before looping them and saw the wheel back and forth until no more fluid comes out.
then the resistance wont be nearly so high during low speed manuvers
and a good wide wheel like 17x9 +17 offset is easier to turn vs a 16x8 +12 offset(50 +38mm spacer)
ackerman and scrub radius, stuff lika dat

Yeah I mean my mk3 wasn't bad to turn with. But we'll see how it drifts with no PS someday.

haha, yep. The tires dont actually take too much wear to tell you the truth. As long as you keep towe in spec, you dont get to bad of wear, but I dont blame you for not wanting to run as low as me, lol.

Oh, and even if it is easier to turn a 17 i'm not going that big. 16's for this thing, i actually might be picking up a set of old meshies for it. anythigns better than bottle caps.

Shane, tell me when you get your new setup, i guess those springs will be better than mine. I'm not even sure my back springs are doing ANYTHING.

fuck yeah, after a couple weeks of anxious waiting my front main seal bolts, engine mount bolts, and pilot bearing got here from Champion. I see why everyone on SF talks Jeff up, hes hella chill and gets you set up nice and quick.

Now I can get all my clutch shit together and put the tranny on for the last damn time. Then in with it, have the wiring pulled and slowly making my way through it clearing the body side up and after i get my igniter ill get it all wired up.

Now the question is...
When I was pulling my dash out i ran out of patience and broke some tabs. Its a shitty mildewy faded blue/gray digidash. Should I even bother putting that shit back in, or should i just fab up some dope aluminum one with trick gauges instead of that faggoty buick digital shit.

I say you do a custom setup with the gauges and not the faggoty digital. You don't want to be a faggot like me. smile.gif

I dont know if my digidash is even good now, it got rained on haha, i guess that made up my mind for me unless i can find a clean dash. Gonna start making my harness bar tomorrow, shouldn't take too long. also cleaning up the turbo piping, and gonna paint the valve covers. oil dipped like the merry pranksters shit.
