OK I've been bugging people all over to get this W series shit in line.
W58 came in 4 major flavors:
MA6X - Aluminum gear carrier plate, linkage in too short for X8 (just swap it)
MA7X 1986-1988 - Aluminum gear carrier plate, linkage lines up perfect in X8
MA7X 1989-1992 - Iron gear carrier plate, larger bearings, same fitment as 86-88 version
93-94 JZZ30 - Iron gear carrier plate, larger bearings, linkage lines up perfect in X8
95+ JZZ30 + JZA80 - Iron gear carrier plate, larger bearings, linkage is too long, will not match X8 (just swap it)
W55 came in one version that you would care about:
JCE10 (IS300) - Iron carrier plate, same bearing size as iron W58 but weaker internals (different metal grade supposedly), different ratios compared to W58, linkage lines up with X8 (same as MKIII), bell housing and input shaft is .5" longer than JZ W58. You CAN use a W58 Supra/SC300 JZ flywheel and clutch setup you just need to extend the slave cylinder push rod to 80mm. This will ensure correct engagement.

from my understanding. the earlier sc300 had the non-extended shifter. looks similar to mk3 style.

As some of you may already know my car here in japan was factory 5 speed 1gfe. My car came factory with w58 tranny. When i converted my car 2jz with R154
transmission using jzx81 engine mounts. First i thing notice that is my shifter did not line up center in the shifter hole like my stateside car did. It was
way to far foreward of the shifter hole.

The transmission is actually making contact with the shifter hole. My shift lever in the pic is from a JZZ30. I could not use my shift lever from w58 tranny nor the
JZA70 shift lever. I could not get my car in first gear with either one of these shift levers. I was really baffle by this when i first did my swap. I found out that MT and
AT x81 have different shifter hole locations. The ATs are more foreward and the MTs are more aft thats why you will never hit your cup holders with a factory
5 speed x81.

This is W58 tranny that came in my car. Notice the longer extension for the shifter.
This is how I am going to fix my current problem with my R154 tranny and give it a near factory look for inspection.

These are brand new parts from a earlier JZZ30 R154 tranny. With this extension it should fit perfect

Freaking Toyota man... so they make different tunnels for autos and manuals, but drill and plug all chassis for the clutch master cylinder.

4 cylinder tacomas run a W59. The bellhousing would most likely need to be swapped but the rest "SHOULD" work. Gearing is shorter in them. Not sure that is something anyone would want. first would be useless in a cress with 3.90 gears. I have 3.58 gears in the tacoma and have started in third on accident before with out stalling.
