alright, so dude with the gram lights didnt need the rest of the corolla parts ive got. he took the CF trunk lid for $$, then made an offer on my civic. possibly coming to take it on wednesday.
so now that ive got real motivation to get the cressida on the road....
the idea is to end up with a finished product that is rediculously awesome in the most important ways: unique. fast. reasonably comfortable/livable to the point it could be and probably will be a daily driver. i like wrenching. but i LOVE driving a whole lot more.
WHAT: Project daily awesome!
WHY: To have RELIABLE transportation TO and FROM work. To have RELIABLE transportation TO and more importantly FAST transportation FROM booty calls.
HOW: a structured build with budgeted stages and stage deadlines achievable even with my hectic schedule.
stage 1: timeframe: UNDER 7 days Budget: $350
im gonna bitch out for now and put the twins back on. get the brakes in order. get it out of the garage and get a mid pipe made up to get that exhaust on. while im in there, ill be getting the nitty gritty of new balljoints and bushings. finding and eliminating the rear end crab. i think im gonna stick with OEM, unless i can find a comprehensive energy bushing kit and maintain the budget. between road compliance/comfort and razor sharp handing, there has GOT to be compromise. either way fresh OEM is way better than 200k mile worn out OEM.
1) brakes: i SHOULDNT have to spend anything to fix the brakes, i think rich gave me everything i need. i padded the budget because i fear i MAY have to spend money somewhere on the brakes.
2) midpipe: nothing fancy, should only cost $50-100 in parts and some welding
3) bushings: $150
stage 2: timeframe: UNDER 14 days Budget: $350
interior work. seats that arent falling apart leather. fiberglass or suede-wrap the dash. working radio. hit up driftmotion for the PS hose, oil pressure conversion line, other misc stuff. get the AC all bolted up and charged. basically, finalize the swap BS, plus make the interior not embarrasing to have guests in.
im currently sitting on a brix I id LOVE to be sitting on INSIDE the cressida. ill either need to buy rails (flipside?) or have my buddy make a set up for me. i may find some half assed seat cover for the passenger side, but more likely ill hit up the NYC dudes parting their cars out for a cloth passenger seat. ive got another sweet drivers side recliner that i dont want to use (unless i can flip the controlls to the passenger side) which i could trade for something too...last resort, i could liquidate the brix to tumble more money into the budget.
1) seat rail: $150
2) fiberglass the dash: $50 or suede ...$?? researching...i dont wanna spend buckets of cash, but i dont want it to look cheap either.
3) driftmotion stuffs: $125
4) cut down stock brake pedal so i dont stomp it when i push the clutch: $20 cut off tool (borrow one for a freebie!)
stage 3: timeframe UNDER 28 days Budget: $200
body work. theres various dings around the car. some small hidden and not so hidden rust patches and corrosion that need to be flushed out before they cause problems. drivers fender needs to be pulled/pounded straighter so the corner light fits in propper. drivers headlight needs replaced because the housing is broken. hood needs replaced or smoothed and filled. roof and trunk need to be sanded clean of all clear coat. paint consultation including what to do for prepwork. possibly have hood roof and trunk sprayed if i get a stellar deal (i know someone who works for beer). id prefer to stay away from painting the fenders before ive got wheels fitted.
prepwork supplies: $75
headlight: $50
hood struts: $30
stage 4: timeframe: completed by june 1st Budget: $2300
this is the expensive phase. wheels. coilovers. fender work. ive got to save something like $250 every 2 weeks, and get my tax refund in on the proposition.
wheels: $700
tires: $500
coilovers: $2000
body work: $100 for supplies
once i complete stages 1, 2, and 3, i will begin planning for stage 5.
so without further time wasting...its off to bed. early to bed, early to rise. work 8-5 then home for work 5-10.

if you need new ball joints, price new lca's, they were the same cost for an entire loaded (bushing and ball) lca as it was for just the ball joint.
also if you have any reason to replace the front fenders, price it, mine were dirt cheap, like $40 for cheapo replacement fenders.

yea thats what i was planning on doing with the lcas. i remember when you were having the same quandry.
the turbos are on their way back in after the firewall dries.
the real question is boost controller....yay or nay?

id really like to find someone sellling a manifold + turbo + downpipe all in one shot. no welder + no welding skills = no making my own dp.
what ive got is access to a shop with a trailer who will tow the car and make it and remake the boost hot pipe for me on the cheap.
ill probably hit up DM for the manifold and the oil conversion lines anyway. i was checking out their turbos too. theyre about the same price as phoenix turbos.

935 has a whole setup for $1499. its kinda redic cause to buy separatly the turbos dont get more expensive, but for some reason their kits do. that includes everything, manifold, DP, turbo, WG, etc etc. it looks like exactly what i need. only thing is its 935 and the website says theres a possible back order. obviously i dont have a problem with waiting a few more weeks, but once its paid for i dont wanna be sitting on my thumbs for the rest of the summer.
i didnt see anything like that on driftmotion. again what im really looking for is that turbo outlet elbow to be already made and ready to bolt to the DP.
bolt everything up and drive away. not tow to the shop and get more work done.

maybe you should call up driftmotion. i get the feeling their website isn't all they offer.
and they were supposed to be working on a kit for you a while back, remember this top sectret snapshot taken by our jzxp moles:
call em up. if i was ready that's what i would do. and if that's not good enough for you, call up 935. get da gooods.
and don't forget electronics. safc, boost controller? yes.. yes..
