We cut these reinforcement plates for the MX83 rear subframe from .075" (2mm) steel with the required clearance for the diff bushing mounts to help make installation easier. You just need to grind off the paint where the new plate will be welded and clearance the stock welds in openings so the plate will sit tight to the stock sheet metal.

To install this plate you will need a hand sander/grinder and a welder.

And hammer unless you plan on welding with that huge gap between the bushes and plate?

Rules are for people that don't know how to skirt them............

The rest of us can figure out a way to make something better that no inspector will ever find :)

there is a way around the rule though. You can call it a repir, but you better have photos of a crackedsubframe for the ref's to see. The local drift circuit (goldengatedrift) is super super strict about the rules and that's what their tech said.

That is one way. And there are pictures floating around the web of many cracked X8 subframes.

Another is to just reweld many of the joints.

Another is cut the welds that hold the sleeves in where the bushings sit, and machine better ones out of bar stock with larger diameter flanges, thicker walls.

It's not like there are any documented dimmenssions on the car.

And you can add a plate on the front side, blend the welds in, and shoot some undercoating all over it, they will never see that, especially if you spray a heathy coating of thick gear oil over the whole area, and go play in a dirt lot with it for 5 minutes.

When I was building my son's 'spec' kart engines years ago, I would purposly be very sloppy with red silicone sealer, complete with intentional fingerprints all over it.

Looked like crap.

But what I was doing, is artificially raising the lower end compression by 'stuffing' the crank case with red silicone, and streamlining the ports with the gunk.

We were the only kart running the US made West Bend engine, because everyone else couldn't get it competitive.

We not only got it competitive, but were smoking the rest of the field.

Was torn down many times, but they never figured out what we were doing.

We had a little practiced exchange that we would do during tech.

I would say to my son "why the hell did you use so much silicone, this looks like shit"

He would say "But dad, you told me to make sure there were no air leaks".

Tech people just thought we were having a disfuctiuonal family momment.........

Rules are for people who like to finish somewhere besides 1st place.

When we were deep into kart racing, I would sit down with the new rule book, and study it intently, highlighting anything that could be considered an edge.

The one I liked the best is where they would say that tech inspectors could not add to, or delete anything in the rules.

I had to point that one out may times at post race inspections.

If they couldn't show me exactly where it said that I could not do something, then it had to fly.

And I used it to stay on top of the people who I was racing against, when some local inspector would try to let one of their buddies slide on something.

Always kept pre-printed claim forms on hand, and I would just fill in the middle, sign, and hand it to the inspector, along with my personal copy of the rule book, in case they couldn't find theirs.

Never lost a dispute in 8 years of racing.

My competitors hated me.........
